Custodians of the Hoosick Falls firehouse with help from Volunteer Fire Department members sprayed 109 Christmas trees for residents last week. They note the lower total due to starting spraying later in the season.
In Hoosick Falls the Reynolds Gilchrest Memorial rink reports 1 449 paid attendees over 16 days since opening. Volunteer Nancy Kovage notes non skaters and weekly lessons are not included. The rink runs 1 to 3 pm and 7 to 9 pm after Christmas with updated next week hours including student free practice time.
Judith Ann Nason daughter of Elsie Nason of 3 Dundee Avenue Hoosick Falls was named winner of the annual Bausch and Lomb Science Award at Hoosick Falls Central School. The honor recognizes the top science student and she will receive a bronze medal at June graduation.
At the Monday meeting Town Justice John Mahar summarized 1976 motor vehicle and criminal cases with $4 752 in fines. Raymond Albowicz reported 82 motor vehicle and 10 criminal cases with $962 in fines. Clerk George McEvoy noted tax penalties totaling $2 005.51 and total receipts of $2 532.86. The board approved a $7 000 fire protection contract with the North Hoosick Fire Department after a public hearing with no residents attending.
Parishioners in Mechanicville held an emotional meeting over consolidation of Assumption Church and St. Paul’s parish by June 1. Critics questioned deadlines and clergy numbers while supporters urged preserving traditions. The diocese head’s stance and possible bishop ruling loom.
A 21 year old Troy woman died from internal injuries after a one car crash on the Taconic State Parkway at 2 15 a m Wednesday. Jean M Sisk of 40 Fourteenth Street was pronounced dead at the scene and Cathy A Mangione 21 of 549 Second Ave Troy was treated and released at Columbia Memorial Hospital. State police say Mangione was speeding and intoxicated. Janet E Lauer 21 of Franklin Square N Y also treated and released. The car skidded off the curb struck a wooden guardrail split in two and ejected both passengers. Sisk is the second young woman to die this week from Taconic Parkway injuries.
No injuries reported after the last two cars of Amtrak Lakeshore Limited derail in Castleton on Wednesday. Detour buses replaced service between Albany and New York City as crews cleared the track and investigated the cause.
Registration for adult education at the Saratoga Warren BOCES will run daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on January 5 and 6 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. New courses include flower arranging and home health aide along with many trades and avocational offerings. Linda Gallagher leads the program.

Colonie police urge a anonymous female caller and a couple who had a flat tire at Colonie Center last Thursday night to contact Lt. Raymond Hahn with any information. The information may help solve the death of Joan E. Richburg found in her car in the Colonie Center lot on December 24.
