Hoosick Harpsichord Maker Builds Fifth Duplicate
Walter Burr and wife Berta in Hoosick Falls complete a fifth harpsichord modeled on the Benoist Stehlin instrument of Paris 1760. Commissioned by Dutch harpsichordist Glen Wilson, the five figure price and three year waiting list reflect their craft. The Burrs’ workshop, now on South Street, uses global materials and intricate painted tops, with Burr’s name inscribed above the keyboard.

Shenendehowa readers outperform state in pupil test
Shenendehowa central schools students show higher reading scores than the state average on the Pupil Evaluation Program. Superintendent Edwin Dunmire notes lower below standard rates for grades three six and nine and a five year rise in above average results due to staff effort and the RISE reading aid program, while cautioning against using the scores as a sole measure of instruction quality.
