Utility Firm Moves Headquarters Weekend Mechanicville

The district office of New York State Electric & Gas Corp in Mechanicville will shift to Park Plaza Shopping Center this weekend. The move, part of Berkshire district expansion, will place HQ in the former Grant building with a night depository and new two way radio tower to serve Mechanicville and Granville areas.

Mechanicville fans will see former local standout Bob Fortune square off for Lehigh University against Union College in Schenectady during the holiday tournament starting December 28. Fortune starred at Mechanicville High School as an end in football and a high scorer for the Red Raider hoops team and led Lehigh with 17 points in a 73-63 win over Muhlenberg. He is the son of Mechanicville contractor Michael Fortune and Mrs. Fortune.

Mrs Cervine Leads 510 Triple in Mechanicville Bowling

Mrs. Jennie Cervine posted a 510 triple to lead the Women’s Independent Bowling Club play in Mechanicville this week. Her 176 line was her best single, while Mary Robens had a 211 game and a 50 triple as runner-up. Other scores included Rose Haskell 485 Monica Gemmill 190 and Phyllis Rocco 187. In team play Russet defeated Ponzillo four games, Matrazzo beat Caplans three to one, Motor Pool and Ahearns split, and Canada Dry and Mijos each took two.

Two teens in Mechanicville clash at Saratoga and Viall

Police report details a 7 pm collision involving Marilyn R. Zappone age 18 of 249 Saratoga Avenue and Donald J. Dieckmann age 18 of 603 Chestnut Street. Dieckmann, coming down Viall Avenue hill, failed to stop for the light and struck Zappone’s car. Zappone said she would see her own physician.
