Nearly all Washington County taxpayers will see higher tax bills this year with increases between $8 and $23 per thousand. Hebron tops the hikes at $32.85 while Hampton rises by $2.75. Four DAR Good Citizens named in Hoosick Falls ceremony

Four seniors were named DAR Good Citizens of 1976 by the Hoosac Wallomsac Chapter DAR at a Saturday gathering in Hoosick Falls. Winners Heidi Pedersen Elizabeth Mahar Brenda O'Dell and Harry Wood received certificates pins and a Washington Landmarks book. Guest speaker Mrs. Herbert Dratt spoke on DAR scholarships and Ruth Rudd chaired the meeting. Refreshments followed.

Hoosick November court action dominated by vehicle violations

Town of Hoosick Justice John A. Mahar handled a November docket heavy with motor vehicle cases. The list includes drivers from across multiple states and towns facing fines from 5 to 120 dollars for speeding unsafe tires open container driving while intoxicated and unlicensed operation among others. Several defendants were cited for no inspection certificates or incorrect plates with some facing additional penalties or discharge.

Hoosick Falls Police Arrest Three For DWI Weekend

Three men were arrested for driving while intoxicated in Hoosick Falls area. Mazatt from Bennington was charged also with unlicensed operator and open container. Burdick faced unlicensed operator and disorderly conduct. Kastner received a wrong way on a one way street charge. Tanner of North Pownal arrested for failure to pay child support. Bail set at 250 dollars.

Fire strikes buildings in Bennington area

A suspicious blaze destroyed two abandoned buildings behind the East Main Street box factory in Bennington early Monday. Police said no injuries occurred and no active utilities were involved. Firefighters limited spread toward the old mill on Main Street while Vermont State Police investigate the origin.

Deputy injured in East Greenbush crash on Route 150

Deputy Robert Whalen suffered chest injuries and was treated at Samaritan Hospital after a three-vehicle collision on Route 150 in East Greenbush at 7:50 a.m. Monday. The other driver, Thomas Heritage of West Sand Lake, faced charges for improper tires and improper left turn. Trooper Thomas Whitbeck led the investigation.

Pee Wee Maree Freed After Escape Charges Dropped

Maree a Ballston Spa figure known as Pee Wee, escaped from a North Carolina prison after 28 months of a seven to ten year sentence. His charges were dropped and his sentence commuted by Governor Holfhouser. his release followed petitions by state troopers and local officials. He returned home with Donna and their two children, insisting he meant no harm and that prison had “straightened me out.”
