Waterford Red Cross Bloodmobile marks 25th visit Dec 12
The American Red Cross Bloodmobile returns to South Federated Church December 12 from noon to 6 p.m. Waterford hosts the region's oldest community blood bank. Since 1968 the Northeastern New York Red Cross Blood program has sponsored two visits yearly, totaling 2,492 units. Donors aged 17 to 66 in good health may participate. no appointment needed.

Turpin Named Sailor of the Quarter Aboard USS White Plains
Turpin, son of Mr and Mrs Eugene Turpin of 96 Hudson Ave Cohoes, a 1975 Cohoes High School graduate and computer operator on the USS White Plains, was named Sailor of the Quarter for his work. He entered the Navy in Oct 1975 and has served aboard the ship since January of the previous year.

Bluebirds Increase Numbers Through Conservation Efforts
Washington AP reports that bluebirds are increasing in numbers due to Dr. Lawrence Zeleny's conservation program. Nesting boxes placed along trails in the United States and Canada since 1966 now number in the hundreds, with a 2000 mile Canadian trail included. Eastern bluebirds have faced up to 90 percent declines from starling and house sparrow competition and loss of nesting habitat.
