Teachers Union Faces New Penalty In New York
The Public Employment Relations Board will strip the United Federation of Teachers of its dues checkoff for one year as punishment for the 14 day strike of New York City schools last September. The move aims to enforce the Taylor Law no strike provision and would force the AFL-CIO union to handle its own dues collections. The UFT appeals a $150,000 fine and a 15 day jail term for president Albert Shanker.
