Artificial kidney tested on volunteer in Michigan
A prototype portable artificial kidney passed a major test on volunteer William Knezevich at the University of Michigan. The four inch by one foot device connected to his arm purifies blood with low priming volume and may offer kidney failure patients a safer, smaller option. Researchers from Michigan, Marquette and Dow Chemical reported the early success and noted no production cost estimate yet.
