Banks Hold Up Enosburg Falls Vermont

Gunmen robbed two banks in Enosburg Falls Vermont on Monday with no injuries reported. The Howard Bank and Sterling Trust Co. losses totaled about 50 000 with over 35 000 and 15 000 respectively. A car linked to the heists was later found abandoned near the Canadian border. The raids are considered related by state police.

Welfare reform push aims for fast county petition drive

County officials John Dudek and Fred McNeary announced a two week effort to gather 25 000 signatures representing one sixth of Southern Saratoga County residents. The drive supports Carter reform by 1978, with Moynihan’s interim plan as backup, and targets state and local signs in town halls and supermarkets.

Father son Babe Ruth game planned in Mechanicville

A benefit softball game for the Babe Ruth League is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Elizabeth Street little league field. Frank Polsinello and Ronald Rose will oversee the event with Mary Hmura and league board members coordinating coaching announcing and umpiring. Refreshments will be sold from a station wagon as part of an afternoon of fun.

Whitehall Teenager Killed in Vermont Crash

In West Haven Vermont a Whitehall girl Corrine A Winters aged 15 died after a one car crash. The vehicle driven by Howard Ryder 20 also of Whitehall left the roadway and pinned Winters beneath it. Ryder had minor injuries and Winters died on arrival at Rutland Hospital. The accident happened shortly before 10 p m Saturday.

He was swimming with about 11 companions when he disappeared around 2 15 p m and his body was recovered minutes later. Mechanicville Meals on Wheels holds a donation day at Price Chopper to support noon meals for shut ins with cards available through program volunteers and city housing director.

Saratoga Battle Anniversary Draws Cronkite Wish List

Stillwater officials plan a large commemoration for the Battle of Saratoga at Saratoga National Historical Park on Oct 7 with hopes of Walter Cronkite as speaker.
