Clifton Park to monitor Knowles gases near Route 146
Clifton Park Town Board approved a small radiation surveillance station near Route 146 to monitor radioactive gases from the Knowles Atomic Laboratory in Schenectady. The project will blend with surrounding woodlands using Breen plywood. The board also heard petitions on sewer noise on Acorn Avenue and discussed traffic, water hookups, a proposed 18 hole miniature golf course, wetlands regulation, and appointed Francis Hunt as Fire Advisory Board director.

Ballston Spa to seek federal funds for alcohol program
Saratoga County votes to apply for a $42 545 federal grant to run an alcohol abuse program with two counselors and a secretary. An architect will be hired to plan expansion of Ballston Spa Infirmary while Homestead Infirmary may be merged with Ballston facility. A third floor addition at Ballston could cost about 1.2 million versus 2.15 million to renovate Homestead.

Youth accused of arson at parents' mobile home
A 15 year old is charged with second degree arson after witnesses said he set a gasoline tank on a lawn mower and pushed it under his parents' trailer at 29-B Round Lake Trailer Park Mechanicville Malta and Round Lake Fire Departments extinguished the 5:30 p.m. blaze no injuries. He is held at the Rensselaer County Juvenile Detention Center pending appearance in Saratoga County Family Court. Trooper J E McKevitt and Investigator W R Campbell made the arrest.

Two Charged With Knocking Down Lady in Colonie
William J. Howard aged 19 of Fair Haven Vermont and Duard LeRoy Morris Jr aged 23 of Bubrock Texas are charged with attempted robbery and weapon possession after knocking down 73 year old Beatrice Orloup on Route 5 Colonie. Police arrested them at 12 25 p m Monday and the victim was treated at St Peters Hospital. Detectives and a sergeant led the investigation.

No More Appeals for Garrow Denied Again

Albany hostage drama ends with escapee surrender
Henry Wilson, an inmate from Great Meadows prison, surrendered to police after a four hour standoff at 133 Dana Ave Albany He held hostage Thomas Charboneau and later released 13 year old Michael Mitrovich and his mother Bisera Filipova The incident began when Wilson escaped from Albany Medical Center and sought a transfer to Fishkill Prison He faced charges of first degree robbery third degree burglary and three counts of reckless endangerment The arraignment occurred in Albany Police Court and he was returned to Fishkill for confinement.

Twenty six watertight barges were serviced at the Port of Albany early Monday, described by port manager Frank Dunham. The new containers, stacked and carried by a mother ship, were loaded with grain at the Albany grain elevator, pushed by a tug to New York Harbor, then to Egypt via Alexandria. From there the barges would move on the Nile or be trucked from Prudential Lines, Inc.
