Oklahoma Ranks Third For Horses
Oklahoma, third behind Texas and California in Quarter Horse population, hosts a multi million dollar breeding industry. The State Agriculture Department cites 30 000 head in Oklahoma and a two million dollar feed bill. Local manufacturers produce 175 horse trailers daily at about $1 000 each. Quarter Horses derive from English racing stock and Arab Barb and Turk bloodlines. They are primarily used for racing over a quarter mile.
