Frederick R. Favour opens Marineland Boats at the foot of Scott Avenue Castleton for its first summer. The waterfront facility offers dockside fuel moorings with annual leases, an 80 by 80 steel sales and service building, and indoor display of boats motors and trailers. Marineland carries a full line of marine supplies and popular brands. Johnson Motors is represented by Marineland Service staff led by Mr Favour a veteran marine dealer and Safe Boating instructor.

Grand Union completes a major remodel of its Pawling Avenue Supermarket in Troy. The store reopens with updated meat department, new fixtures, seven self checkout stations, and a redesigned exterior. Remodeling promos run Aug 14–19 with gifts and a prize drawing on Aug 26, including a Sony TV and Triple-S Blue Stamps. Grand Union operates 542 outlets across 11 states, DC, and Puerto Rico.
Friendly Ice Cream Corp. will open an ice cream and sandwich shop at the Troy Plaza on Hoosick Street on Aug. 25. The Troy store is one of two or more established in the area. The other will be Schenectady. The first of the chain was opened at the Colonie Center. The Friendly Ice Cream Corporation started in 1935 by Curtis L. and S. Prestley Blake. They began by opening their first ice cream store in Springfield, Massachusetts. Since 1946, the firm has realized at least a 20 percent increase in sales each year. Today the firm operates 146 ice cream and sandwich shops in New England, New York and New Jersey. Future growth plans call for 200 shops to be in operation by 1969 and 400 to open by 1974.

Investors prefer capital gains distributions to income. Tri Continental, a large closed end fund, voted to pay out capital gains, ending a long practice of retaining them. The policy change cut the stock's discount from 31.76 percent to about 23 percent as tax rules shifted in 1965.
Huyck Felt Co of Rensselaer won first place in an advertising readership study of industrial advertisements in Pulp & Paper Magazine conducted by Daniel Starch & Staff consultants. A ceremony in Huyck's Rensselaer offices presented inscribed plaques honoring the 1966 and 1987 award winning full color ads to company executives and the Albany advertising agency Van de Car De Porte Johnson Inc.
