David J. Miller, the nation's first draft card burner, was freed on bond pending a U S Supreme Court appeal. Miller, 24, had been sentenced to 24 1/2 years for refusing to replace the draft card burned in 1965 to protest the Vietnam War. He had been held in the Federal House of Detention after a Massachusetts appeals court ruled the draft card destruction ban unconstitutional.

John A. Grieco Jr. 19 of Watertown pleaded guilty in U S District Court to possessing 10 000 phenobarbital tablets stolen from his physician uncle last fall.
