Cohoes Council Seeks Demonstration Cities Aid

The Cohoes Common Council plans to back city participation in the Demonstration Cities program with a resolution urging federal aid. Mayor McDonald’s executive secretary, Paul VanBuskirk, said a 72 page draft will be mailed to New York City for federal review, with potential total aid up to 500000 including 400000 extra if selected. The deadline is May 1 and final action hinges on council approval. Housing ordinance would enable 300 housing units under urban renewal, relocating 300-400 families, with federal aid contingent on relocation progress.
