East Greenbush walkathon raises 5000 for March of Dimes
About 300 walkers from area schools joined the East Greenbush Castleton event led by Dave Twarog and Rick Matters. The fundraiser netted roughly $5,000 with prizes donated by local sponsors and volunteers from RACES, VFW, Kiwanis, and Knights of Columbus. Funds should be mailed to the State Bank of Albany in East Greenbush.

A bird’s eye lithograph titled A View of Castleton N Y 1884 is for sale at 1 40 to support a village walking tour brochure. The map measures 22 by 13 inches, shows detailed houses farms and businesses, and hangs in the village hall. Proceeds aid the June 12 walking tour. Five Maple Hill High School environmental studies students have been teaching Castleton Elementary School in K 2 on Thursdays since November covering forests oceans recycling animals energy pollution and seasonal change.

SCHODACK The Castleton Schodack Jaycees and Jaycees have raised 1000 dollars for Castleton Elementary School playground renovations. Gerry Friends principal told the board at Maple Hill High School that donated tires and poles will be used for tunnels sandboxes and steps. Volunteers begin work next month. Petitions for two seats on the Schodack Central School Board are due by May 16. Ashley will not seek reelection and Mesick has not decided. The board also approved a committee to evaluate school administration and accepted the resignation of part time Spanish teacher James Flynn.

Charges in Clifton Park sodomy case
Glenmont man Kim Klersy 21 charged with first degree sodomy and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child in Clifton Park incidents last fall. Arrested at Big M Truck Stop in Malta, jailed without bail, to appear in Malta Town Court. Victims were under 11 years old per state police.

Thomas Dawley 21 of Spring Street was fined 25 for failing to keep right and 25 for speeding after a 2 a.m. March 29 crash that damaged Thomas Andersons home on Spring Street. Damage exceeds 5000. Dawley pleaded guilty to the two charges and driving while intoxicated. he received a conditional discharge pending driver education.
