Five Die in Denver North Intersect Crash

At highways 59 and 10, three Waterloo and two Cedar Rapids residents died in a highway crash Sunday afternoon. A coroner's jury found Chas. Kacere negligent for not stopping at the 59 10 intersection. Mrs Anna Kacere 73 died later in Cedar Rapids hospital. Six others injured, all Cedar Rapids residents, were hospitalized. The Waterloo party was returning from Spillville. the Cedar Rapids car was en route to Mason City for a christening. The dead include Kiester Harrington King and Rev Joseph Kacere among others. many Kacere family members were injured. Eyewitnesses described the impact and debris scattered across the field. The injured were moved to Mercy hospital Waverly and then Cedar Rapids.

Final Windup Of State Bank Soon

G W Berger examiner in charge announced the remaining assets of the closed Tripoli State Bank will be sold at public auction in Tripoli. Depositors will receive a final dividend after the sale, with about ten percent expected. A complete list of notes and debts will be published. sale bills will be distributed countywide.

Highway Safety Week Set by Iowa Legion

In cooperation with the Iowa motor vehicle department the Iowa department of the American Legion will run Highway Safety Week from September 24 through 30. It launches a year long safety campaign in Iowa aimed at cutting accidents by fifty percent. The local American Legion post and city officials urge public to ensure brakes, lights and cars are in good working order and seek broader community support from other groups to amplify accident prevention efforts.

Readlyn Beats Dunkerton In Final League Showdown

Readlyn defeated Dunkerton 7 to 4 in the final league game on the local diamond as Witenberg limited Dunkerton to seven hits with two strikeouts and no walks. Earlier Readlyn edged Winneshiek county all stars 3 to 2 in ten innings with Bulgren striking out 14 and allowing three hits while Ploog fanned eight.

Rough Ashler Masonic group of eight lodges in the district will hold a school of instruction in Sumner on Tuesday evening September 26. Golden Wedding Celebration for Schwemms Near Tripoli

A large gathering marked the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Carl F. Schwemm and Wilhelmine Schwemm at their home northwest of Tripoli on September 13. The event featured family, neighbors, a jubilee service, and a supper with two long decorated tables centered by a cake. The couple, married in Siegel in 1883, have lived on the farm and remain active though with health issues noted for Mrs. Schwemm.

Preparations Under Way For Large Saturday Event

In a local American Legion Auxiliary roster a name was omitted. Mrs J C Kuhrt was elected sergeant at arms and Mrs Walter Springer assistant sergeant at arms. Mrs E C Claus to act as county chairman until a county meeting elects a successor. Mrs Jennings and Mrs Claus were elected May 15. Claus attended a county chairman conference at Grundy Center on September 19 with lunch at the city hall. Mrs Roy Pell led the meeting and outlined this year’s work for chairmen and unit presidents.

Brayton Cleared In Speeding Charge At Waevrly Court

After four hours of deliberation a Waevrly district court jury found J. F. Brayton not guilty on a speeding charge in the Town of Sumner case appealed from mayor's court. Judge J. J. Clark opened the sealed verdict Tuesday morning. No other jury trials were set this term.

A full day of free entertainment and sports is set for Saturday September 23 in Tripoli. Highlights include a doll buggy and pet parade led by the Tripoli high school band, a barbecue beef lunch, a kittenball game between Siegel and Fremont, numerous contests, stunt plane flying by Midwest Airplane Corp, a Flower Show at Wm Ambrose Garage, and two dances, with Congressman A C Wilford speaking at 1 PM. Cash prizes accompany many events and farmers split tug of war teams by railroad side.
