A new promotion starts Thursday September 12 offering a nine day event with over $200 in value. No registrations required. customers save two dollars to receive a two dollar bill as change. A grand prize will be displayed Saturday September 21 with serial numbered bills and a winner chosen from matching serials in windows. Participating merchants and families are ineligible to win.
Local election tallies reveal candidates in several contests with notable write-ins. Bennett and Moeller secure reelects in Bremer County Board races, while Buchholz leads the at-large seat. A five-way school election in Denver yields 111 votes for incumbent Judas among 248 total. Haight and Dern vie for seats alongside others.
Tripoli Highschool varsity opens the 1963 season Friday September 13 at 7 30 p m hosting Sumner Aces. The conference opener features veteran players Robert Tops and Robert Thurness as Tripoli seeks a rebound after prior losses.
A new water conditioning business named Nelson Soft Water Co. opens in the old post office building in Tripoli. The Waterloo based Nelson Soft Water firm expands with a Tripoli sales and service department for water softeners taste odor removal iron filters and corrosion control equipment operated by Wayne Bruch.
Congressman H R Gross invites young men of the Third Iowa District to apply for appointments to national service academies in 1964. applicants must submit name, date of birth, parents’ names, preferred academy, and respond by Oct 4. Exams screening Nov 9. vacancies: Air Force, Military, Naval academies plus statewide Merchant Marine nominations.
Gov. Harold Hughes urged defeating the Shaff reapportionment plan during a Sac County Democratic gathering. He warned it would drive a wedge between urban residents and those on farms and in small towns, amid vote set for a Dec. 3 special election. He may campaign statewide, calling the plan worse than the current legislative setup and expressing strong personal conviction against it.
Tripoli V F W posts announce a club dance Friday evening September 13 at the post home. Accordion by Adolph Steinbronn from 9:30 to 12:30, lunch served by the Auxiliary. Admission limited to members and invited guests.
The Justice of the Peace court in Haydon handled 17 cases in August with total fines of 493 dollars and costs. States cases accounted for 110 dollars and Town of Tripoli cases 383 dollars. Notable fines include Elsamiller 20 for speeding and 15 for noise, Schulz 25 for failing to yield, Peters 50 for reckless driving, and Hackbarth 100 for furnishing beer to minors with license suspension hinted.

Carl Kirchhoff entered Sumner Hospital on Thursday for treatment and observation, marking his admission to the facility.
Funeral services for Tripoli's oldest citizen Adolph Koch 96 who died at his home in Tripoli Tuesday will be held Friday. A 1:45 p.m. prayer service at Rettig Funeral Home and a 2 p.m. service at Grace Lutheran Church Tripoli will be officiated by Rev. Arnold Thalacker with interment in Grace Cemetery. Surviving are two daughters Millie and Linda Kirchhoff and a son Alfred, all of Tripoli.
The Sweet Marsh refuge area will be declared inviolate as of September 15, banning hunting fishing and trespassing in that section to protect migrating waterfowl. The remainder of the marsh stays open, with the inviolate zone lasting until the migratory season ends.
The H H Nevermann household items will be sold at public auction September 19 at 500 South Main Street Tripoli. The sale starts at 2 p m with items including a Frigidaire refrigerator a Hotpoint range a full set of kitchenware and antique furniture plus a 1953 Ford V8 Custom Fordor sedan Fordomatic in good condition. Arnold Hexom acts as auctioneer and Walt Kemp as clerk.
Mrs H C Kuhrt was taken to Sumner hospital Sunday afternoon where she is a patient.
A total of 741 pupils are enrolled for the coming year in Wapsie Valley schools, up 27 from last fall. High school has 240 students, Readlyn elementary 182, Fairbank elementary 176, and Oran elementary 143, with grade counts listed by class.
Wapsie Valley High School opened its class elections with report of officers by class level. Freshmen elected Stanley Otto as president with Darrel Meyer as vice president and Wilbur Leistikow as secretary treasurer. Student council picks Leslie Matthias and Karen Stumme for two-year terms.
Mr and Mrs Joe Brooks of Waterloo spent the weekend with her parents Mr and Mrs Ed Weihe after a 10 day tour through Illinois Indiana Ohio Pennsylvania Niagara Falls and New York They also visited Cape Cod Fort Devens Massachusetts and spent time with a friend in Fort Devens Massachusetts.
Bremer County ASC notes that eligibility for 1964 feed grain payments and price support remains tied to maintaining the farm’s normal acreage in conserving crops or practices. The provision, in effect for three years, affects wheat producers on compliant farms by forcing any wheat in excess of allotment to come at the expense of another soil-depleting crop. Diversion payments, price-support loans on corn, grain sorghum and barley, and a two-rate diversion payment option will be available, with the higher rate usable on more acres. Contact the ASCS county office for updates as the program develops.
The Tri poli Community School district accounts and funds were audited and found in order per a State Auditor's receipt dated Aug. 30. This is an annual audit of funds as required by state law.
Robert Holm of West Union and Duane Holm attended an insurance meeting in Cedar Falls on Thursday.

The State Services for Crippled Children will hold a diagnostic clinic in Oelwein at First Presbyterian Church on Sept. 26. Eligible are youngsters under 21 from Allamakee, Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Clayton, Delaware, Fayette, Linn and Winneshiek counties. Free examinations with specialists in pediatrics, orthopedics, pedodontia, psychology, speech and hearing, physical therapy, nursing, social work, and ECG. Dr. John C. MacQueen directs SSCC and Iowa College of Medicine faculty supervise.
Farmers and tenants are urged to attend township meetings on Sept 19 at 8 p.m. to elect 3 member ASC community committees with 2 alternates. Meetings occur in Dayton Buck Creek Douglas Franklin and other townships. committees will also serve as delegates to the Sept 28 county ASC convention in Waverly.
Butler Bremer Mutual Telephone Co officials awarded Moeller Construction Co Tripoli a general contract to build a 34 by 34 foot masonry building for automatic equipment to dial the Tripoli telephone exchange. Plans include purchasing back 40 feet of Dime A Time Laundromat lot with a 40-66 foot section. Construction to start within 10 days.
