L. H. Schultz of Batavia New York spent most of the week visiting his parents Mr and Mrs PB C Schultz before returning home Friday. He was in Chicago on business and used the trip to see his parents.
A two car collision at the intersection of highways 10 and 6Y at 2 16 p m Saturday sent five people to Mercy hospital Waverly with bone fractures internal injuries lacerations and other injuries The injured include Mrs N H Armstrong Cedar Rapids with fractured femur and collar bone Dorothy Lee Cedar Rapids with a broken collar bone Pearl Lee Cedar Rapids with broken hip and collar bone Inez Lee Cedar Rapids with bruises and lacerations L E Bailey a Williamstown merchant with fractured collar bone and internal injuries Bailey was south toward Denver colliding with Armstrong who was west toward Waverly at the intersection Six of the seven persons were injured The Armstrong car a Chrysler sedan turned over six times and was wrecked The Bailey car a Penline sedan sustained damage near the left front end All six occupants were rushed to Waverly Hospital by ambulances including one from Denver and two from Waverly. Armstrong was the only uninjured person.
Frederika Special. Sunday marked the forty-fifth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Tibbetts of Frederika. A gathering of 29 relatives and friends at their home featured gifts including a radio, with nephew Will Dilley arranging the drive, a presentation speech by Mrs. G A Hinkley, and a poem she wrote for the occasion. Mrs. Hinkley also presented the wedding cake. Uninvited guests helped with dinner at noon and five o'clock.
Fremont correspondent reports Neva Gleason and Elston Chapin hosted a mixed shower at M A Woodcock home honoring their upcoming marriage. Guests enjoyed games 500 bridge and visiting with a lunch served by Mrs Woodcock Mrs Kirchhoff and Mrs Chapin.
About 200 attendees in Readlyn, Iowa, voice protests at a Bremer county tax protest gathering. Speakers attack the minimum teacher wage law, the Bremer county fair one mill levy, and the three mill TB cattle test levy, urging tax reforms and budget scrutiny. The meeting is part of a series with a third session set for Sumner.
Mr and Mrs Ernest Bodermann east of town were surprised Thursday evening October 22 by a party planned by their children for their 35th wedding anniversary. Eight families attended and about five hundred people joined in the entertainment with a midnight lunch prepared by the ladies. Sisters Mrs A W Mooney and husband of Oelwein and Mrs F H Harmening and son Orval of this city attended.
Supervisor C. G. Schwem sustained a severe head cut and other bruises when his car overturned in loose gravel west of the Siegel Lutheran Church Monday afternoon. He was taken to a local hospital and remains confined.

Miss Malinda Spier and Otto Drewis wed at the Little Brown church on Sunday October 25 officiated by Rev. William Kent. Attendants were Irene Duecker and William Bielmann. The couple plan to establish a home in the northwest part of the city.
Siegel special report on Arlon Gerhard Rodemeyer youngest son of Mr and Mrs Fred Rodemeyer of Douglas township died at home Monday morning after a brief illness caused by intestinal trouble and convulsions. Born May 13 1926 he was 5 years 5 months and 13 days old. The Luther League of St John’s Lutheran church hosts a Sunday evening program in the church basement starting at 7 15. It features piano duet Marie Geffert and Beverly Rohrssen violin solo The Star of the East recitation A Mighty Fortress is our God clarinet solo The Battle Hymn of the Reformation song I Love to tell the Story performed by the Leaguers and various solos including saxophone. A slide show on Martin Luther and the Reformation plus hymn prayer and doxology accompany the event. Members and friends are invited to attend, marking Reformation Day.
Mrs Mary C Wells 88 resident of Sumner for 55 years died at her son F J Wells home from complications of a paralytic stroke and a hip injury. Surviving F J Wells Jerry Niles James Snyder Lichtenwalmer 15 grandchildren six great grandchildren. Services held 2 p m Wednesday at Methodist church with Rev Paul Pease officiating. Burial Wilson Grove cemetery.
A pleasant gathering marked Mrs. Margaret Holms’s 71st birthday at her south town home Sunday. Friends enjoyed games, radio music, supper, and a midnight lunch. Attendees included Louis and Lawrence Mohlis, Theo Peters family, H W Niedert family, F C Holm near Readlyn, Ray Buchanan, Art Holm and Glennis Mae, C C Schlichting, Christ Schweer, W H Dohrman, Mary Buchholz, Mary Pries, Dora Schweer, Herman Pries and Stella, J C Kuhrt and sons Robert and Kenneth, Louis Holm, and Kurt Fuchs.
Farewell services were held for Rev Hildegardt at the Buck Creek church last Sunday afternoon. He will move to Tripoli where he has bought a residence. Rev M Kleinan, former pastor of St Peters Evangelical from 1908 to 1918, will succeed him at Buck Creek and relocate from West Bend Wisconsin around November 3.
Mr and Mrs Frank Sager of Waverly were here Monday with the husband conducting business while the wife visited at the home of her niece Mrs Wayne Acken Local society note indicates family ties and a short absence from home.
A $50 reward is offered for the conviction of thieves who killed and butchered a young heifer owned by C. E. Alcock and Son in the Alcock pasture, southeast of Frederika. The animal was shot in the pasture on October 24 and partly dressed there, two quarters taken, the rest left uncovered. This was the first such theft in the area for some time.
John M. Ramsey publisher of the Clarksville Star entered Iowa state politics as a Republican candidate for state senator in the Butler Bremer district. He previously served as state senator and as state representative, seeks voters by citing his record and urging broad support amid district encouragement.
Reformation Day observance at St Peters Evangelical church Sunday evening features invited congregations from Nashua Denver Fredericksburg Siegel Buck Creek and Waverly. Services begin 7 45 p m in bilingual format with a 70 voice chorus. Speakers Rev Hackman Tripoli and Rev Gabler Nashua.
The American Legion leased half a block of railroad ground one block east of Main Street and south of the railroad and elevator and began construction for a municipal skating pond. When finished it will provide winter sport for the young and all ice skaters in the community.
Married in Iowa City Werner Huck and Vera Voss united in the Lutheran church at high noon Sunday October 25 Rev Groening officiating. The groom, son of Mrs Louis Braun, will reside in town after a two month honeymoon in California where Huck is employed at Niewohner Hardware. Former resident dies Lillian Harmon Walker, born here in 1859 and later of Kansas City, died after years of invalidism. Survived by husband five sons sister-in-law and cousin Elmer Reeves. Thieves take 61 turkeys from Howard McCaffree farm near Waverly Junction last night, birds ranging 10 to 12 pounds, tracked across thirty rods and marked in the hope of capture.
Thieves broke into J M Taylor’s clothing store last Saturday night and carried away a large quantity of garments including four suits two overcoats two pairs of trousers a sheep lined coat a horsehide coat and shoes. They also took $18.40 from the cash register. Entrance was gained by prying open a rear window. Officers are seeking clues but have no leads yet.
Mrs John Schelroff aged 40 of East Dubuque Illinois died at Mercy hospital last Tuesday morn ing from injuries sustained in an accident near East Dubuque on No 59 a week earlier. Her husband and young daughter were uninjured. Mrs Schelroff suffered a skull base fracture and jaw fractures while en route to visit friends at New Hampton.
Wartburg Echo announces staff officers elected for the monthly publication. James Roach of Plainfield is manager, Rozella Sager assistant manager, Carl Becker editor in chief, with Paul Adix and Marie Zinc as assistants. Others will also assist in publishing the magazine.
R. H. Sewell and his daughter Rae left last week for Long Beach California to spend the winter. The Sewells have gone to California for the past twenty years to avoid cold winters. Mr. Sewell’s health has not been good the past year, and it is hoped the warm California winter will benefit him.
Two automobiles collided at the Former House corner on East Bremer Avenue in this city Saturday evening. One driver was Bill Ducker and the other Mr Renn. No one was injured but the Renn car sustained heavy damage.
The former hotel is undergoing extensive improvements. The main lobby and rooms are redecorated and the property now presents a first class condition and enhanced appeal.
Merle Mishler son of Mr and Mrs Clyde Mishler broke his wrist during football practice with other Oys. Henry Anhalt buys the 87 acre farm of Winne Ingham northwest of the city and plans to farm again. Mrs W R Knight, a longtime Waverly resident, is in Mercy hospital with flu and is critically ill.
