The children of Fremont No 8 will give a program at the schoolhouse four miles south and half mile east of Tripoli Tuesday evening November 10 starting at 8 o'clock. Lunch will be served after the program. Marie Kuhrt, teacher.
Waverly special report: Eugenio Dinelli, 49, shot himself at his Horton area farm home after family found him missing since morning. Coroner F Koch deemed the death a self-inflicted wound with no known motive. Funeral services set for Thursday at 2 p.m. with Rev. T R Collins officiating. burial in St. Marys cemetery.
Mr and Mrs John Warnke of this city celebrated sixty years of marriage on Sunday November 1 with a surprise dinner and supper planned by their daughter in law Mrs Henry Warnke of Frederika. Family from multiple towns attended as flowers from gardens decorated the rooms. The couple, aged 83 and 80, have seven children 17 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Several relatives were present and others could not attend. Rev and Mrs Koehler offered a brief talk and vocal selections in the afternoon.
Armistice Day will be observed in Tripoli on November 11 by the Bock haus Bartels post of the American Legion. Members meet at the Legion hall and march at 10 45 to the flag staff on Main street for a 30 second silent salute, then proceed to the opera house for song by the audience, invocation, Legion ceremony, mixed quartet, address by Rev E Forrest By ers, and a final Star Spangled Banner.
Herman Wolthers of between Waverly and Janesville suffered severe hand injuries Monday while shredding corn. His glove got caught in the shredder gears pulling his hand in. He was rushed to Mercy hospital where two fingers were amputated and the hand may require amputation. Mr and Mrs John Ambrose of Saude visited here Saturday with Amelia Ambrose and relatives.
The November district court term opens in Waverly with Hon. C. H. Kelley presiding and Geo. A. Lake reporter. Forty-five new cases added, 25 slated for trial, seven criminal, and 36 probate matters. Listed are trials on names such as Nienhaus vs Guhlow, Franklin vs O’Brien, and Wissender vs Kellner, plus equity and probate cases including estates and will contests.
A listing of dozens of cases from Sumner and Bremer County courts includes appeals from mayor’s court for disturbing the peace, bastardy complaints, bonds to keep the peace, false drawing of checks, driving while intoxicated, resisting an officer, various equity matters, and assignments for creditors. Also shows liquor permit applications and multiple surname cases involving Potter Montross Besst Besst and the Bank of Sumner, with continued notes on page 8.
Miss Leona O Connell held a Halloween party Saturday evening October 31 at her east town home. Guests included Mary Clary Leola Hagedorn Anna Esther Blume Bertha Blume Leona Bremer Ruth Clary LaVera Bockhaus Ruth Carroll Arlene Carroll Gladys Schnei der Dorothy Heidemann Ruth Mummelbie Opal O Connell Rosalea Waterman and Archie Eastland family. Prizes awarded for girls and boys contests with booby prizes to Dorothy Heidemann Donald Segebarth Everett Bremer. Midnight supper served by Leona O Connell with Dorothy Heidemann assisting.
Elston Chapin of the Tripoli area and Miss Neva Gleason of Oelwein wed Sunday at 9 p m in the Christian church of Oelwein with Rev. Irving Wade officiating. The bride, Iowa State College Ames four year home economics graduate 1927, has taught in Duncombe Center Point and Guttenberg. The groom son of Mr and Mrs A D Chapin, ISU animal husbandry graduate 1923, member of Theta Chi, farms with his father southeast of Tripoli. They will reside on the groom’s family farm near Tripoli and later in Tripoli.
Frederika Special. Division C of the Ladies Aid Mrs. Viola Jahnfle Mrs. Bertha Bergman Mrs. Ethel Carney Mrs. Hattie Gunsalus and Mrs. Sarah Alcock hosted a homecoming in the church parlors. About one hundred attendees enjoyed autumn decor Halloween themes a program with two solos by Miss Vivian Grover plus games and a fortune teller. Out-of-town guests included Mrs. Lela Clary Mrs. Louise Alcock Mrs. Grace McGowan and Roberta Mrs. Ina Brodie Mrs. Ira Luesenhop from Waverly Mrs. Juanita Tibbetts Richfield and several from Williamstown LeRoy township and nearby communities.
Cedar Falls's Paul Jones defeated Kenneth Burke of Waverly in two straight falls at the opera house show last Saturday night. The first fall took 12 minutes and the second 10. Roland Drewis floored Ed Zander in two straight falls around two minutes each. Tommy Moore beat Albright in Waterloo in a boxing match. Buck Harris substituted for Ed Olejniczak before Harris stopped Goodenbour in the second round. Harris plans future boxing and wrestling cards at Frederika and another opera house bill next week.
Mrs. Jean W. Randlett of Chicago will visit Bremer county on November 16 and 17 to present practical lectures for rural families. Topics include Making Your Poultry Pay and Rural Parent-Teacher Work. The Bremer County Farm Bureau sponsors this event, and questions will be answered.
Miss Edna Sell hosted a Hallowe'en party Sunday evening east of Tripoli. Guests included Erna Ashbrenner Tenora Reich Esther Moeller Shirley Krause Esther Meier Margaret Aders Adella Koch Margaret Kelsey Arthur Reick Lester Reick Alfred Bentow Reed Kelsey Arnold Tiedt Arnold Sell and Jule Judisch. A playette by Lenora Ashbrenner Annette Specht and Elda Reick opened the event. Prizes were awarded for Halloween stunts and a seasonally themed lunch followed hosted by Miss S and assisted by Adella Koch and Margaret Kelsey.
J. J. Chadwick celebrated his 87th birthday on Wednesday November 4 with a dinner at his home attended by his sons Aldis New Hampton R W Chadwick Waterloo and Lorenz this city and daughters in law and grandchildren. He received fruit baskets from Waverly W R C and American Legion auxiliary and chrysanthemums from the Legion. He is the citys last Civil War veteran and remains in good health and active.
The American Legion Auxiliary will hold its regular November meeting on Tuesday November 10 at 8 o clock in the Legion hall. Strong attendance is expected as several unit activities will be presented.

The Tripoli high school junior class presents Who Wouldnt Be Crazy a gay farce at the opera house Friday November 6 at 8 15 directed by Miss Beryl McCreery with Miss Veryl Sturch assisting. Tickets are on sale at Sorg Drug Store.

John M Ramsey, publisher of the Clarksville Star, announces his bid for the Republican nomination for state senator from the Bremer-Butler district. He cites a voting record favorable to the people and service in the house and senate as his credential.
Mr and Mrs Ray Bisbey and daughter Virginia visit Mr and Mrs H H Bull with Mr and Mrs Robert Nissen and Mr and Mrs George Bisbey and sons in Waterloo on Wednesday evening.
J H Siebert, 64, jeweler from this city, died suddenly of heart disease last Thursday night in a Mason City hotel while on business. He moved here with his son from Waterloo two years ago, established a jewelry store, and is survived by wife, a son, a daughter, a granddaughter, and a sister in California. Funeral from his home Tuesday at 12 45 led by Rev J K Hawkins, with burial in Reinbeck.
Arthur Zimmerman of Waterloo and past commander of the Becker Chapman post is set as Armistice day speaker for a Waverly high school and Wartburg Normal college program in the high school auditorium on Wednesday November 11 at 11 a.m. Armistice Sunday services will be a union church service at the Methodist church on Sunday morning November 8 with Rev. Herbert Temple delivering the address. Musical numbers will be led by Mrs Frank Holloway.
William Schroeder and Mrs Sophie Hagenow were united in marriage at Peace Evangelical church in this city on Wednesday evening October 28. Rev C Gabler officiated. The couple will reside near the city on Schroeder’s farm.
