Mrs. Chris Moeller of Denver died at her home Tuesday evening October 25 after a brief illness from a carbuncle complications. She was 77, born July 19. Survived by husband four sons John Los Angeles Fred Albert Arthur Denver two daughters Mrs Ernest Homann and Mrs Ernest Steege, with Anna and Herman predeceasing her. sisters Mrs W H Notdorf and brothers William and F C Hildebrandt attended.
A Bremer county Young Republican unit hosts a county wide rally for voters aged 21 to 36 at the Legion hall in Tripoli on Monday October 31 at 8 pm. U S district attorney for the northern district of Iowa Harry M Reed will speak, described as a popular and engaging Iowa Legionnaire.
The Junior class play Climbing Roses debuts Friday at the Tripoli opera house. A social satire features Peggy Rose Dahlia Krueger Maggie Rose and many others in a Morocco of characters led by Miss Veryl Sturch and Miss Ruby Calvert with music by the high school orchestra. The production is arranged with Walter H. Baker of Boston.
Mrs. Fred Heinemann thanks relatives and friends for flowers and fruit during hospitalization at Waverly. She also thanks the Ladies Aid of St. John's Lutheran Church for the card and handkerchief shower and cherishes the thoughtfulness.
Three Democratic rallies are scheduled in the county over the next ten days. Governor candidate Clyde L. Herr ing will speak Friday night October 28 at Denver High School auditorium. Congress candidate A C Willford will address Readlyn Tuesday night November 1 and Sumner Cass Opera House Thursday night November 3. Other county and district candidates will attend.
Mr and Mrs E H Kuker of Tripoli suffered cuts and bruises when their car collided with a wagon and Wagner s vehicle on highway No 59 near Denver during a drizzle R G Wagner of Waterloo sustained severe burns to feet legs and neck from flames after his car burst into flames and all three vehicles were heavily damaged Wagner was taken to a Waterloo hospital while the Kukers received medical attention in Denver and Tripoli
Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Notdorf Mrs. F. C. Hildebrandt and Mrs. J. C. Fink drove to Denver last week Tuesday to visit Mrs. Notdorf's sister Mrs. Chris Moeller who is confined to her home by illness.
The Wapsie River east of Tripoli gains about 65 000 fish in a week as John Horn and a state fish and game aide plus nine locals pulled 30 000 bullheads 20 000 black bass 15 000 crappies and pickerel from sloughs into the main waters. A 225 foot net yielded carp and many fish were released to mature. Local workers named include W C Ferge man Perry Crittenden Henry Lau M W Bennett Clarence Kimbal Frank Kimbal Roy Jacobson August Pieper Arnold Duker and others braved mossy obstacles during the seine operation.
Mr and Mrs Will Eichmann hosted relatives at their west of town home Sunday to mark Mrs Eichmanns birthday on October 21. Afternoon guests included the Hildebrandts and Eichmann relations from Readlyn Buck Creek and Readlyn with evening visitors from this city. The gathering featured cards visiting and a late lunch served by the hostess.
Miss Josephine Schnurstein and C Vern Dunahoo united in marriage at the Luana Lutheran Church on Friday October 21. The ceremony was conducted by Rev Henry Kumpf with attendants Miss Valitha Schnurstein and Henry Rogge. The couple will reside at the William Kanter home in Tripoli after a wedding trip. The bride, a Tripoli native, is a nurse by training. The groom, son of Maxwell residents, has been a Tripoli high school instructor and was named principal this year.
One hundred Legionaire and Auxiliary members of the county attended the joint county meeting in Tripoli on Monday evening October 24. Officers were elected for the county Legion and Auxiliary, with Roger Jennings named county commander and Robert M. Lease vice commander, and Roy Smith adjutant. The Auxiliary elected Mrs. Leslie Schuknecht chairman and Mrs. Jankins secretary. A joint session featured talks by district leaders, musical numbers, and installation of officers by Dr. M. C. Martin, concluding with retirement of colors and refreshments.
The Royal Neighbor lodge will hold their November meeting at their hall Tuesday evening November 1 at 8 o'clock. A good attendance is anticipated. Refreshments will be served and social entertainment is planned for the evening. Mr and Mrs F W Klein and daughter Kathryn visited Des Moines Sunday to see their daughter Miss Ione Klein.
Mr and Mrs B L Hamblin of this city marked forty years of marriage with an afternoon St Andrews Guild gathering and a pewter vase presented by guild ladies. A family dinner followed with a decorated cake from Mrs Emma Stuffelbeam. The couple have lived here 23 years and Mr Hamblin has been Illinois Central agent for 31 years.
Waverly relatives of Harry Hoeger, a former resident, learned of his death at his Santa Maria California home on Sunday morning October 23. He had kidney illness but remained active and worked in a newspaper office in Santa Maria. Hoeger, who worked in the newspaper business here, is survived by his wife and five children. The body will go to Pomona California for burial. the family lived there for years before moving to Santa Maria.
Mr and Mrs August Pichelman were honored with a surprise party by their children last Monday evening in Babcock hall West Bremer avenue. More than one hundred guests attended as the couple celebrated forty years of marriage in Waverly where they have lived for thirty two years after leaving a farm nearby.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Goodspeed observed their twenty-fifth anniversary at home last Thursday with friends neighbors and relatives in attendance. They received a silver cream and sugar set as a gift and enjoyed a picnic supper followed by cards and visiting.
Relatives and friends of James Clark of Waterloo and Miss Mary Cool of Chicago, former city residents, were notified of their marriage in Chicago last Monday October 16. The newlyweds will reside in Waterloo where Clark practices law and he is a brother of Romane Clark of the city.
Waverly notes include the Leach home lease by Mr and Mrs Clarence Carstensen who will move in this week after a secret marriage, and Milton Fangmeier with Margaret Swenson marrying in Janesville on October 15. The Dricoll sisters visited Greene. Mrs John Murphy’s recovery from surgery allows her to return home. Leo Cooley fractured an arm after falling from a fence. Mr and Mrs W D Babcock and infant Nancy Ann discharged to home from hospital.
