Independent Office to Print General Election Ballots
Bremer County Independent Office won the ballot printing bid at 207.12 beating Tripoli Leader 217.75 and Waverly Publishing 271.35. The order covers 14 000 general ballots and about 8 000 township ballots, printing on roughly a ton of paper for a 24 by 28 inch ballot with nine columns for Republican Democrat Socialist Prohibition Farmer-Labor Progressive Communist and two Independent columns.

Car and truck collide on Primary 59 at Siegel corner
Rev. and Mrs. K Pfeiffer of Siegel and Rev. M Kleinau of Buck Creek sustained minor injuries in a collision when the Kleinau car struck a large cement truck on Primary 59 at the Siegel corner. The Pfeiffers were en route to New Hampton to visit Mrs Kleinau in hospital. Pavement work to the north distracted attention, leading to the crash from the south. The cement truck was only lightly damaged while Kleinau’s car suffered a badly damaged front end.

W G Orchard Dies Suddenly at 66
William G. Orchard, 66, died suddenly at his home last Friday evening from a heart attack. He had battled heart trouble a year earlier but had seemed well. Survived by his wife, son George Orchard, and brother Richard. Funeral at Methodist Episcopal church Monday, Rev. Herbert Temple officiating, burial in Harlington cemetery. Orchard ran a produce shop on east Bremer avenue for years.

Hertlein Takes Over Sinclair Station on Bremer Corner
George Hertlein has assumed management of the Sinclair service station at the Bremer avenue and Third street N. W. corner, replacing A. L. Remboldt who moves to Greene to run an undertaking establishment. Remboldt had earlier been associated with F. C. Koch here. Ill health prompted his return west, but he came back this spring. Hertlein, a well known local, previously ran a shoe store here and has spent recent years in Waterloo.

Tony Sievers Recovering From Cement Truck Injuries
Latest reports from Mercy hospital say Tony Sievers of Frederika, seriously injured last week when a truck load of cement passed over him, is recovering as well as expected. He had a dislocated left shoulder, fractured pelvis, broken foot and leg, six fractured ribs, and numerous bruises.
