Tripoli Firemen Respond to Two Local Calls
Tripoli volunteers answered two local alarms this week and aided at a Readlyn grass fire. At 1:45 p.m. Monday they quelled a timberside grass blaze near Edwin Kammeyer farm, northwest of Tripoli, preventing spread to a cornfield. hunters were suspected as the cause. Thursday at 9:30 a.m. they battled oil burning along the Great Western railroad tracks, quickly extinguishing it and saving lumber owned by Hasbrouck Lumber Co.

Annette O Rourke Clary aged 75 died in Waverly on Oct 12 after a lingering heart ailment. Funeral was at St Marys Catholic Church in Waverly. Ernest H. Kehe 63 of Waterloo died in Allen Memorial hospital after an embolism. Bremer County residents and seven fire departments, including Readlyn and Oran, battled a large grass fire near Readlyn starting Sunday at 3 30 p m. The blaze spread across swampland and timberland near the Wapsie river in Seven Bridges, destroying corn and soybeans. Volunteers and two hundred people aided as alarms rang and crews fought until early Monday, with multiple reactivations and road closures for firefighter safety.

Edwin L. Kelsey of Tripoli aged 84 died Monday at University Hospital in Iowa City from epistaxis and heart failure. Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Meier funeral home and at Congregational church, Rev. Thomas B. Dixon officiating. Burial in Fremont cemetery. Survived by sons Leslie and Victor, one daughter Grace predeceased, five grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters. Casket bearers were H. W. Krueger, Fred Harmening, Herman Weihe, Frank Beggerow, E. G. Michael, C. J. Kimbal. Born May 11, 1868, he lived much of his life in the area except two years in Ashville, North Carolina. He married Matilda Schultz Feb. 14, 1908. He was a hotel operator and painter/decorator. operated a hotel and restaurant in Tripoli in 1904-1905.
