Otto Bonorden 57 died Thursday morning at the Des Moines Veterans hospital from diabetes and complications. Funeral services were held Monday Oct 27 at Meier's funeral home in Tripoli and St Peter's Evangelical and Reformed Church with military honors from veterans groups. Survived by wife Ina Sauerbrei four sons and several siblings. Interment in Grace Lutheran cemetery, Jubilee, Black Hawk County. Born January 30 1895 he served in World War I and was a longtime resident near Jubilee and Tripoli.

The Congregational Women's Fellowship of Tripoli won a 15 prize at an Ironrite demonstration held at the Tripoli Hardware. The award went to the church women’s group with the highest percentage of members registered. 32 of 38 members from the fellowship were registered.

Evansdale youth killed in Plainfield car crash
William R. Yant, 22, of Evansdale, was killed Sunday when his car sideswiped a truck on Highway 218 two miles north of Plainfield at 1 pm. In the rear seat, 17 year old Howard Aschbrenner escaped injury after lying down to rest. Garland Guthart, 24, driver of the truck, also escaped injury. The car was demolished and toppled toward a ditch. Yant and Aschbrenner had been hunting north of Greene. Aschbrenner’s decision to lie down in the back seat likely saved his life.

Tripoli volunteers faced a quiet week with only one call while neighboring departments battled a spate of grass fires. They aided Readlyn at the Albert Holler farm four miles south and three miles east of Tripoli after noon Thursday. A 17 year dry spell drove a high fire risk across Iowa with 45 days without rain and only 0.87 inch in September, 3.28 inches in August, totaling 4.15 inches in the last three months.
