Mount Pleasant Iowa. Henry County farmers faced arrest as they resisted state compulsory tuberculin testing. Brig. Gen. Findley deployed guards and machine guns to disperse a 150-strong crowd led by Henry Connor. Two jailed farmers promised to return home, while others were released. officials expect no further trouble. Tests began with McKinnon’s cattle herd four miles south of New London.

Mr and Mrs John Berlin sr and jr with families and friends took a Sunday sightseeing trip to Dickeyville Wisconsin to see the grotto and enjoyed a picnic there They then visited the fish hatchery at Manchester and Backbone state park for a picnic supper before returning home
Des Moines report says Governor Dan Turner urged Iowa farmers in a radio address to withhold corn from market to push higher prices. He urged feed of corn to livestock where possible and called for a western governors conference on farm prices. He backs an equalization fee debenture plan and government support for federal land bank bonds. The campaign is part of the farm price stabilization effort with upcoming local talks by committee members Ralph Smith and Roy T. Pullen.

H J Metcalf director of information for the state fish and game commission will address the Tripoli Commercial club Monday evening October 19. He will also speak to Tripoli high school students Monday afternoon about fish and game conditions in Iowa with charts and maps.
Two capacity houses welcomed the American Legion Auxiliary production A Bachelor's Escapade at the opera house on Monday and Tuesday. Leading players included Dorothy Claus Leslie Kelsey Helen Meyers Lorenz Krueger and Francis Northrop. Costumes and musical numbers added color and charm, and the show was an outstanding success likely to yield a neat profit for the Auxiliary.
A joint American Legion and Auxiliary meeting at Waverly legion hall on Monday evening October 12 elected officers for the coming year. Dr E C Claus of Tripoli was named county legion commander with Roger Jennings of Janesville as county legion vice commander and H L Leslie of Waverly as county adjutant. For the Auxiliary the county chairman elected was Mrs J A Hale of Tripoli and county vice chairman was Mrs Leslie Schucknecht of Sumner. Attendees from the city included L H Fink third district commander and several others.
Mrs Wm Heideman near town was surprised Thursday Oct 8 by friends who gathered to honor her birthday. The evening featured music, visiting, and a lunch provided by guests. Attending were Mr and Mrs Henry Warnke and families, Mr and Mrs Louie Heideman and families, Mr and Mrs Albert Matthias and families, Mr and Mrs Fred Sell, Mr and Mrs Richard Thieman and families, and Mr and Mrs H H Sehlichting and families.
Mrs. D. C. Pockels of Detroit arrived Tuesday for an extended visit with her mother Mrs. Nora Gunsalus, her sister Mrs. H. F. Schmidt, and other relatives here.
Des Moines reports Carroll and Crawford counties became modified accredited on October 1. Appanoose Davis Van Buren and Hardin counties were remodified after three years of retesting. Over two thirds of the state is now fully tested. Cedar county testing nears completion with infected herds. Henry and Muscatine counties also nearing finish.
About 800 farmers rallied at F. W. Drury’s farm in Rowan Iowa to halt a sheriff’s sale of his personal property to satisfy debts at a defunct bank. The crowd watched as the auctioneer had no bids and Drury’s brother bought most goods at low prices. No formal organization or strike plans emerged though sympathy for the popular farmer was cited. The event followed a disrupted sale the prior week when the bank receiver attempted to bid in the items.
George Merriott of Superior Iowa, formerly of Frederika, died suddenly at home Tuesday after hauling corn fodder. Aged 75, he was son of Lewis and Julia Merriott, birthplace Fredericksburg. Funeral held in Superior Friday. Burial in family lot. Survived by widow six children a sister and a brother. Preceded by three children, parents, and brother Charles.
Mr and Mrs Charles Barbknecht of Marshalltown and their son with families visited the Krueger home southwest of town Sunday for a reunion of all sisters and brothers. Present were Mrs Fred Kimball Readlyn, Mrs Fred Bunger and husband, John Barbknecht Old Town, and Mrs Emma Schoephoester Canton Minn was absent. Carl Drape and daughter Delores also visited Sunday evening.
The Congregational Ladies' Aid will serve a chicken supper in the church basement on Thursday October 15 at 5 30. Menu includes fried chicken mashed potatoes gravy cabbage salad ice baked beans parker house rolls apple or pumpkin pie coffee pickles butter and jelly on table.
The American Legion Auxiliary will hold its regular October meeting at the Legion hall on Friday evening October 16. After the business session, installation ceremonies will take place to install the new officers for 1932.
Mr Laird his wife and daughter along with two Grinnell college classmates were riding in a LaSalle when a tire blew near Grinnell. The car went into a ditch causing multiple injuries. All were taken to Grinnell hospital with scalp wounds and serious injuries but not life threatening. The car was a total wreck. Eldon Laird left for Grinnell to check on relatives.
Ferdinand Hillman aged 54 died at his mother Mrs Ida Hillman home after months of illness. He had lived in Chicago previously and returned to be cared for by his mother. He is survived by his mother a brother Fred Hillman and two sisters Mrs T M Buehrer and Mrs Charles Seitz. Funeral services were held Kaiser chapel Thursday and burial followed at Harlington cemetery.
Mrs Henry Christopher aged 71 died at her home Thursday morning after several months illness due to complications She had been bedbound only a few days Funeral services were held Saturday at Peace Evangelical church at 1 30 Rev Lawrence Sohl officiating burial in Harlington cemetery Survived by four sons George Fred Henry and Robert all of Waverly and four daughters Mrs Kimmelshue Mrs Hicks Alma and Louise
Norma Jean, three year old daughter of Mr and Mrs A C Rambo, was struck by a car driven by Louis Bauer last Sunday evening when she stepped in front of the vehicle. Bauer, moving slowly, stopped shortly after. The child was taken to a physician and found not severely injured, only bruises and cuts.

Miss Nellie Driscoll, who has nursed in San Francisco for fourteen months, arrived home Saturday for a visit with her sisters and may stay the winter. Miss Isabel Driscoll, employed in Cincinnati, Ohio, is also spending a month’s vacation at the sisters’ home.
Miss Margaret Dricoll returns home after two week Rochester visit for examination and care. W A Watkins begins a bungalow on a newly bought lot from Chris Pipho. Harvey Nolte also contracts a modern residence. Joseph Lynch loses control in a No 10 east city auto accident but sustains only minor injuries. Cleon Acken, longtime station agent at C G W depot, remains seriously ill. Mrs Morris Sennett’s stroke leaves her in critical condition. Mr and Mrs Ivan Strom are mentioned in local updates.
