Two Farm Fires Near Sumner Cause $50 000 Damages
Sumner reports two farm blazes Sunday causing about 50 000 dollars in damage. Floyd Manson farm four miles west of Fayette sustained around 10 000 dollars in outbuilding loss. Waterloo hunter Derald Miller age 39 was fined $25 and costs for possessing a wood duck during a closed season. Conservation Officer Ben F. Davis filed the information as Iowa duck season opened at Sweet's Marsh with dawn firing over the weekend. Results of day one and two were mixed as hunters reported variable success and many birds appeared young and small.

The Chickasaw county board of education holds a plan to reorganize Fredericksburg area districts. A study committee presented the plan with a map, assessed valuation and census. Board approval and petitions for an election are required before any vote. An election would create a new district entirely within Chickasaw county.

Waschkats Injured In Auto Crash On Highway 63
Two Tripoli men were hospitalized after a Wednesday night crash at the junction of Highways 63 and 3. Louis Waschkat, 67, suffered an arm fracture and minor injuries and was improving at Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo. His son Harold, 26, driver of the car, was released after treatment for multiple bruises. The car rolled onto its side after swerving to avoid a slowed vehicle near the railroad viaduct.

Funeral Today for Randolph Tiedt Warped Readlyn Resident
Funeral services for Randolph Tiedt 43 of Readlyn were held at Church of the Good Shepherd Waterloo with Rev Lowell A Koch in charge. Burial occurred at Harlington Cemetery Waverly with six pallbearers. Born April 29 1913 near Readlyn he died after a heart condition at Sumner Hospital. He worked for Bremer County road maintenance and is survived by his mother three brothers and five sisters plus in laws and nieces.

New Addition to Readlyn School Underway
