Publican Hatchet Burial in Iowa GOP Split Mends
Iowa papers report Robert Goodwin and Harold McKinley have buried the hatchet, now leading the farm division and farm organizing committees of the national Republican party. They work from the Conrad Hilton hotel in Chicago after a July clash over Ike and Taft. Inheritance tax collections in Iowa rose from 1,020,718 in 1940 to 3,939,209 in 1952, with about 3,000 estates taxed last year as land prices push taxable estates higher. Economists note no major buying surge post steel strike, though retail remains strong.

Iowa Receives 223522 for Wildlife Funding This Year
Secretary of the Interior Oscar L. Chapman announced 10,025,106 dollars in Pittman Robertson allocations to 48 states for wildlife restoration and development for fiscal 1953. Iowa’s share is 223,522 dollars, down from 389,799 the prior year as overall grants fall by 7,165,925. Albert M. Day says reduced gun and ammunition buying during the Korean War caused the drop, with a recovery expected as spending normalizes. States must contribute at least 25 percent to qualify for federal grants.
