Tripoli Panthers beat Hawkeye 33 19 in a homecoming game Friday night. Evan Breeding led the offense with early drives while Seelhammer scored twice and Bock connected with Seelhammer for the extra point as Tripoli built a multi possession lead. Homecoming queen Velma Schultz crowned at halftime as floats and dance followed the game.

Sommer Family Hurt In Auto Accident Near Waterloo
Mr and Mrs Walter Sommer and their daughter Mary Kay 11 were injured seven miles north of Waterloo on Highway 63 at about 6 pm Wednesday Oct 1 They were returning from the dairy cattle congress A second car driven by George Gaffney 21 of Waterloo failed to stop at a side road and struck theirs Gaffney was ticketed for failing to stop at a stop sign and charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated Mrs Sommer suffered a broken right leg cuts needing stitches and facial injuries and is hospitalized then convalescing at home Mr Sommer has a sprained ankle bruised shoulder and back Mary Kay was thrown clear and escaped with scratches and bruises Damages to the Sommer car are about 900.

Temperatures Hit New Low Of 25 In October Town
The week long cool spell kept daily highs to 80 on Wednesday and 59 on Thursday, with Sundays and Mondays dipping to 25. No rain has fallen since Sept. 14, marking a 24 day dry spell as daytime average fell 27.5 degrees to 58.5 and the week's low averaged 35.1.

Several Tripoli youths have received honorable discharges. Cpl. Dale Krueger has returned from Ft. Benning Georgia to his north Tripoli home. Pfc. Werner C. Sell came back from Korea and is visiting his sister and her family in Waterloo. Pfc. Harold Schwere returned home from Korea last August and works at the Ambrose garage.

Baxter minister Dixon elected pastor at Tripoli church

Duck Hunting Season Opens in Iowa This Noon
The Iowa duck hunting season opened at noon with hunters at Sweet's wildlife refuge as the eastern part remained open and the west closed. The season runs Oct 8 to Dec 1, with bag limits four ducks daily and eight for the first day, geese five with two Canadian or white fronted max, and device rules including three shell capacity and a 1952 duck stamp for over 16. State licenses required. Shooting hours posted for the first two weeks.
