Itripoli merchants announce a Christmas Trade Dollar promotion offering $300 in Trade Dollars. Drawings on December 10 and December 23. tickets required and limited per person. Santa visits December 10 and 17. Kiddie show at Town Hall at 1:30 p m with free treats for children 12 and under.
St Pauls United Church of Christ in Denver was dedicated Sunday November 27 after about 15 years of fund development. The $120000 building replaces the old structure as Gardner Bros. of Waterloo served as general contractor and other local firms handled plumbing, heating, and electrical work.
The 1960 U S Census shows Iowa’s population at 2,757,573, up 5.2 percent from 1950’s 2,621,073. Tripoli records a 4.4 percent rise, with Bremer County totaling 21,108 residents in the countywide breakdown.
Local bowler Lorenz Bunger qualified in district roll offs at the local alley with a 662 handicap including games of 222 236 and 136 for a 594 scratch series and will appear on the Strike It Lucky TV bowling contest. Wouris Boleyn led the women with a 547 series including handicap and games of 175 159 133. both qualifiers will appear on a Sunday broadcast and must bowl Sunday morning to determine which program segment.
William Emmert of Waverly was named director of Bremer County s 1961 March of Dimes campaign announced by Robert D Ray Iowa State Chairman The new drive will expand to prevent birth defects arthritis and poliomyelitis and seeks continued community support as volunteers and contributors through the campaign year
The Tripoli Community Chest has reached 91 percent of its goal with $2,500.45 collected and on deposit at American Savings Bank. The campaign is $239.55 short of the $2,740 target, with closing donations still possible at the bank. Credit is given to volunteers and Tripoli residents for their generous response.
Tripoli Band Mothers schedule their annual Christmas exchange party for December 7 at the high school. Hostesses include Mrs. John Beam Mrs. Alfred Blasbers Mrs. Erwin Bock Mrs. Orville Bick Mrs. Paul Judisch and Mrs. Arno Ladage. Secret pals will be revealed at this event.
The 1960 Sample Survey of Agriculture will be conducted in this county over the next several weeks. It asks about farm ownership size crops livestock equipment income and construction. Local interviews will be conducted by Mrs Hazel Haines of Walker.
Tripoli residents are invited to join the fourth annual Christmas lighting contest sponsored by the Tripoli Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Prizes include a $25 U S Savings Bond for first, $5 cash for second and third, and $3 cash for fourth. No entry fee or registration needed.
Raymond Kuethe and Margaret Matthias reached their 25th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at Mrs. Matthias home, followed by a dance. Married November 28 1935 at Waverly they have six children Allen Ronald Kathleen Janet Michael and Debra. Attending were Mrs. Kuethe 39 sister Mrs. Allen Kroblin Sumner and Willard Meier Waterloo.
Paul F Hartman schedules a complete closing out sale for Friday December 9 at noon on the farm one mile north of Tripoli on highway 93 and one mile west. Items include 16 Brown Swiss cattle sheep chickens hog and dairy equipment hay feed farm machinery and misc items. Auctioneers Arnold Hexom, sale clerked by American Savings Bank. Farm owned by Mrs Minnie Schumacher, rented to Edward McNamee with possession March 1. Hartmans to move to Tripoli.
Postmaster Ray H. Fink urges early mailing and outlines packing tips for parcel post, including sturdy boxes, cushioning material, and proper wrapping. It covers card rates, return mailing rules, Canada and Mexico rates, December mailbox rules, and two local letter drops at the new post office Tripoli and Out of Town. Mr and Mrs Paul Voetmann spent Thanksgiving at the Arthur Voetmann home Ringsted.
Wapsie Valley defeated Tripoli in both boys and girls basketball last night. Girls lost 27 to 41 with Caroline Kehe scoring 25 for Wapsie Valley and Darlyl Lampe the high scorer for Tripoli with 12. Boys prevailed 62 to 49 behind Rich Meyer with 16 rebounds and Fred Hildebrandt’s 22 points.

Chapin 91 who died Sunday night after brief illness Burial followed at Fremont cemetery with casket bearers Vernon Kirchhoff Dennis Kirchhoff Eugene Woodcock Clifford Chapin and Donald Chapin He was born April 24 1869 near Tripoli married Rosa Bennett March 30 1897 they farmed until 1942 then moved to Tripoli Survived by son Lynn New Hampton two daughters Mrs Erwin Kirchhoff and Mrs Ruth Woodcock Tripoli a sister Mrs Mina Tibbetts Santa Barbara California 23 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren Preceded by wife and two sons Gleason and Lyman He belonged to Congregational church Tripoli Laymen's Fellowship and Farm Bureau for years.
Interstate Power Company's Tripoli office announced the white way street lighting project is near completion. Contractors expect to finish today or Thursday morning with 32 mercury vapor luminaires, 9 in the business district and 23 along Main Street. Cost exceeds $12,000, but monthly light bills will rise only slightly.
Edwin Lohmann was injured when his right hand was caught in a corn picker last Wednesday morning. He lost his ring finger and little finger on that hand.
Denver voters will decide next Wednesday December 7 on a 95000 bond issue to add six classrooms a band room restrooms and related facilities to the existing junior high. The proposal would raise taxes by one mill for 20 years with 12000 available for equipment. Polls open noon to 7 pm at Denver city hall.
The Grace Lutheran church choir will host its annual candlelight service on Sunday evening December 4 at 7 30. The program titled The Holy Night retells the first Christmas tale in song with Ronald Mastin of Denver High School directing and in charge of the program.
Carl Hildebrandt has been discharged from Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo after a three week stay for treatments. He returned home on Tuesday to recover locally and resume daily activities.

Waverly realtor and accredited farm broker W R Jahnke was elected regional vice president of the National Institute of Farm Brokers at the institute’s Dallas meeting. His region spans Iowa Minnesota Nebraska North Dakota and South Dakota. He serves as president of the Iowa chapter of the NIFB and the institute includes 1400 realtors across the United States and Canada.
Rev and Mrs Arnold Thalacker announce the marriage of their son James Richard Thalacker to Nancy Craig daughter of Mr and Mrs Leslie Craig of Des Moines. The ceremony was at Grace Lutheran church Tripoli on Saturday November 26 performed by Rev Thalacker. The couple will reside at 3600 Kingman Blvd Des Moines after a short wedding trip.
Francis Meswarth will hold a complete closing out sale on Wednesday December 7 starting at 1 pm on his farm four miles east of Readlyn on highway 3. The sale includes 10 acres of timberland three miles east of the farm. Arnold Hexom of Waverly acts as caller with Walt Kemp of Waverly as clerk. The Meswarths are moving to Minnesota to live on an acreage there.
