New Street Lights in Tripoli Business District Open
Tripoli lights up the business area with nine new 20,000 lumen street lamps turned on last night. Work began Wednesday to replace aging fixtures. After main section, 23 more luminaires will add 10,000 lumens in residential Main Street. First block of 1st Ave SW and 2nd Ave SW to receive lighting. Program cost cited as over $12,000 by Interstate Power Co. with minimal impact on town bills.

Radar speed check nets 35 violators in two days
State Highway Patrol conducted a two day radar speed check in the area reporting 35 violators. One driver, Leon Elmer Korte of Sumner, was fined 100 dollars for 106 mph in a 50 mph zone with a 60 day license suspension recommended. Other fines ranging from 6 to 30 dollars were issued to residents of Tripoli Waterloo Readlyn Sumner Evansdale Denver and nearby areas.

Pool Machinery and Muscles at Recent Corn Picking Bee
A corn picking bee at Gustav Boeckmann farms on Saturday November 19 drew friends and neighbors with 11 corn pickers and six elevators assisting harvest. Wives provided and served meals while many named workers helped including Erwin Drape Clarence Bahlmann Jack Struck Alfred Boeckmann Herbert Bergmann and others. Mr Boeckmann remains hospitalized at Allen Memorial in Waterloo four weeks after a traffic collision on the gravel road west of Frederika that damaged his pickup.

National Book Week invites students to browse library
Last week in observance of National Book Week an invitation was extended to the elementary school to visit the library. Through cooperation with Mr Smith and the grade teachers sections visited for 15 minutes each. Over 300 pupils and teachers participated while no books were checked out.

Girls Win 46-43 as Panthers Prevail in Greene Clash
Tripoli High Pantherettes beat Greene 46-43 to gain their second win of the season. Sandy Curtiss and Caroline Kehe paced the offense while Mary Hagen's defense keyed a strong second half for Tripoli. Greene used a sharp front line led by Curtiss to keep the game close, but Tripoli finished strong. The Tripoli boys fell 50-37 to Greene in the same Friday clash.

License examiners at the Tripoli Town Hall processed 62 customers last Saturday with 12 new operators licenses and 32 renewals issued. Chauffeurs licenses had 1 new and 8 renewals. 3 instruction permits granted. 1 written-test failure. 1 expired operators license refused after failing the test. 2 operators license applicants failed the written test. 2 driving failures but no vehicle failures. The team returns next month on Saturday December 17.
