Marble Rock Man Killed in Readlyn Accident
Readlyn reports a Marble Rock man, Jesse Heft aged 70, died when his car skidded on ice on the Wapsie river bridge two miles east of Readlyn and rolled into a ditch Tuesday at about 9 30 am. His wife Lenora 69 was injured with a fractured rib and shock and remained in Mercy hospital Waverly in fair condition. The Hefts were bound for Detroit to visit a child. Heft was thrown from the vehicle.

Lumber worker loses thumb in saw accident

Retail Sales Rise in Bremer County in Second Quarter
Retail sales in Bremer County for the quarter ending June 30 climbed to 5,007,904, up from 4,831,009.50 in 1955, with an average of 8,589.88 per permit holder among 584 firms. Tripoli saw a slight dip. rural merchants fell. Sumner and Waverly led the gains with strong increases and higher average sales per business.

Tripoli High boys travel to Sumner next Tuesday for a doubleheader then both boys and girls start conference play at Readlyn Friday November 30. Last week the Panthers split with a Fredericksburg doubleheader, then beat Greene 62-47 as the girls routed Greene 65-41 led by Shirley Sauerbrei with 31 points and Trudy Nerge with 22. Dennis Olejniczak added 19 for the boys in the win.

Tripoli businessmen will gather at 1 30 p m Sunday to put up downtown Christmas decorations. Volunteers are needed and are expected to finish quickly. New draped evergreen festooning with colorful lights will wrap poles and streets. Members will also take down the decorations on Dec 30. A drive to keep downtown streets clean and public information programs were approved. Mayor Piegers noted plans for two hour downtown parking about Dec 1. Next meeting Monday in Readlyn.
