Tripoli shoppers can win one of 40 quick frozen turkeys at 3 30 p m Saturday from the American Savings Bank corner. Tickets free with each $1 purchase or on credit at participating merchants. One turkey per person, must be present to claim.
Mrs. H J Frese and Mr H J Frese traveled to Des Moines for the funeral of John Berlin Miller Mrs Frese's brother who died after a month long illness in Iowa Lutheran hospital Des Moines Burial was in Highland Memory Gardens Des Moines Survivors include wife Margaret son Dennis 10 daughters Jo Ann 15 Connie 3 five brothers and four sisters Attendees at the funeral included Delpha Frese Hazel Whitlow Ivan Hill Thelma Berner and others.
Funeral services were held today at Matthias Funeral home Denver and St. Matthews Lutheran church Readlyn for John Sassmann 87 who died Saturday night at Allen Memorial hospital Waterloo after a lingering cardiac illness. Burial was in the church cemetery with casket bearers Mervyn Sassmann Jene Sassmann Robert Sassman John Bast Duane Dettmer Marvin Blasberg. He was born July 29 1869 in Germany immigrated to the United States at about four years old married Emma Huebner on Aug 24 1893 they farmed and lived in Readlyn. He is survived by three sons John Elmer Art three daughters Mrs Henry Blasberg Mrs Herman Dettmer Mrs Richard Bast and many grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1948.
Fire of undetermined origin damaged the Farmers Produce Co building, with material for poultry processing ruined and interior damage. The fire, confined to space between ceiling and rear roof, was controlled by the Tripoli Fire Department, allowing production to resume Tuesday after a brief shutdown.
Alfred Rieck manager of Tri Poli Canning Co Inc was elected vice president of the Iowa Nebraska Canners association at the closing Des Moines meeting last Friday.
A survey by State Department consultants Grimes and Van Dyke proposes converting the present buildings for K-6 use and constructing a new high school for grades seven through twelve in Tripoli. The plan details classroom needs, site options southwest of current facilities, and expanded spaces for shop, library, home economics, band, and administration. Bonding capacity is listed at 8.18 million dollars with a 5 percent true valuation limit.
Tripoli High School boys and girls start the 1956 57 season at Fredericksburg with the girls first and the boys next. The schedule runs through January with home and away games against Greene Readlyn Plainfield Denver Janesville Frederika Sumner and county tournament. Girls rely on six letter winners led by guards, while coach Ted Olmstead fielding a rangy boys team with a large squad and several seniors juniors sophomores. Results list Fayette Plainfield Frederika games for girls and Frederika 120 Ionia 15 and other girls scores.
Ralph Olson of Ellsworth will speak at Harvest Home Festival services at Congregational church Sunday morning. The 4-H group from the church will join in special music and Olson will discuss his extensive Russia trip and observations. A potluck dinner follows the service with attendees asked to bring a dish.
Funeral services were held at Rettig Funeral home Monday for Ernest L. Redies 59 who died last Friday at the Mental Health Institute Independence where he had been a patient the last 28 years. Rev O H Moll pastor of St Pauls Evangelical Lutheran church Artesian conducted the services. Burial was in the church cemetery with casket bearers Art Redies Gus Redies Emil Redies Henry Redies and E H Stehn. He was born December 28 1896 in Bremer county to Frank and Caroline Ohlendorf Redies and is survived by two sisters Mrs Herman Schweer and Alvina Redies, both near Tripoli.
Local enforcement reports show multiple hunters fined for violations of state hunting rules. Mayor Rudolph Piegers collected $155 in additional fines. Individuals from Oelwein Waterloo Des Moines and Sumner faced penalties of 15 to 25 dollars plus costs for loaded or assembled guns in vehicles or on game reserves, with charges filed by several conservation officers.
Tripoli post office patrons will receive Christmas Seals with two children on each sheet as 1956 fund drive kicks off. Bremer County Tuberculosis and Health association presents the red cross symbol and urges donations toward Iowa's $555,000 target. Last year 506 new TB cases were reported in Iowa, highlighting the ongoing health fight.

Denver Community School district voters approved a 290000 bond to build a new high school with a 76 by 94 foot gymnasium auditorium and several facilities. The plan shifts current rural schools to elementary use, consolidating eight rural schools and the town plant into the district’s structure. The measure passed 588 yes to 97 no with six spoiled ballots, a margin well above the required 60 percent. The district spans Bremer and Black Hawk counties, formed from Denver and parts of Maxfield, Jefferson, Bennington, and Mount Vernon townships.
H W Henning will hold a closing out sale at the Art Tegtmeier farm four miles east and one and a half miles north of the Highways 63 and 3 junction starting at noon. Henning is quitting farming to move to Tripoli. The sale includes 123 head of livestock grain and feed and a full line of farm machinery. Orville Naber Dumont will be auctioneer and American Savings Bank will clerk.
Mrs. Olive Bowers Bagnard 61 of Waterloo died after surgery and heart condition. Funeral at Frederika Methodist Church led by Rev Dean Chapman with Rev D L Carver. Burial in Alcock cemetery. Survived by husband Frank, son Frank Leslie at Rock Island, daughter Mrs Paul Roberts Waterloo, three grandchildren.
Tripoli Commercial club will hold its regular monthly meeting at the Town Hall Monday night. Lowell Fink, son of Mr and Mrs L H Fink, recently returned from army duty in Europe, will show pictures and discuss his experiences there. Christmas promotion plans will be announced. Fremont Township will hold an Extension Council election Friday at 8 p m at the Vernon Wikner home. One extension staff member will be present to explain the program for the coming year.
Funeral services are set for 1:41 p.m. at Rettig Funeral home and 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed church for Fred Biermann 75 who died Monday at Sumner hospital after about a month’s hospitalization. Burial will be in the church cemetery with casket bearers Harold Hartmann Everett Biermann Clarence Biermann Ralph Drewis George Drewis and Harold Drewis. Surviving are wife Martha and children Leslie of Sumner and Mrs. Edwin Zander of Waverly and Mrs. Alfred Pleggenkuhle of Fredericksburg, plus 11 grandchildren and a great grandchild, two brothers William of Tripoli and Otto of West Union, two sisters Alvine Bergmann of Tripoli and Anna Hartmann of Waverly, among others.
All Tripoli stores and offices will be closed on Thursday November 22 in observance of Thanksgiving. The Tripoli Post Office will be closed all day with no window service, star route delivery or rural free delivery. Postmaster Ray Fink stated the schedule.

Tripoli's hard football team capped a strong season with a 7 0 victory over Nashua on Wednesday night. Dennis Olejniczak starred on offense and defense as Tripoli extended its win streak to six, moving to seven wins in nine starts. Nashua threatened late but Tripoli held on, aided by sensational pass defense and a key fumble recovery by Ralph Bolte. This was the final game for 13 Tripoli seniors including capt Terry Dreyer and Leonard Stumme.
Superintendent E. R. Shriver said Tripoli schools will dismiss at 3 p m next Wednesday to begin a four day Thanksgiving vacation. There will be no classes Thursday or Friday, and classes resume Monday, November 26, at regular time.
Kenneth Pierce's wife was celebrated at a stork shower Thursday evening at the Harlan Estrem home. Hostesses Mrs Estrem and Mrs Peggy Finney led eleven guests through games and lunch was served.
