Dr. and Mrs. BE C Claus left Sunday for Des Moines to attend a two day course in dental economies. They were joined by their daughter Mary Ruth and Mrs. Clasen, who were met there by Dr. Clasen, and later returned home.
Rev E F Byers argues that true thanksgiving is inward joy rooted in Christian graces. He urges love forgiveness peace and righteousness as core sustenance rather than mere feasting and calls for America to become more Christian to serve the world.

About 60 000 attended the national corn husking contest at Grundy Center last Friday. Orville Welch of Illinois won with 2196.4 pounds husked in 80 minutes. Theo Balko of Minnesota and Lee Carey of Iowa followed. The event featured strict rules, a large Farm Bureau organized parade, and extensive radio and film coverage. The Missouri entry broke a new trend by not placing last. A festive bonus was a full post event crowd and food stands amid the daylong spectacle.
On November 12, the 52nd birthday of N. H. Buhr was celebrated at the Buhr home with relatives including Kasemeiers from near Sumner and Hawkeye, Buck Creek, Frederika, and others. A Sunday gathering featured games with prizes to Alfred Buls and F. H. Bockhaus for high score and to F. H. Bockhaus and Alfred Buls for low score.
In Bremer county district court an investigation of certain Tripoli State Bank officials was authorized by Judge M F Edwards. Special counsel H L Leslie of Waverly was appointed to report findings to the Bremer county grand jury, which may act accordingly. The board of supervisors requested the inquiry amid depositor concerns. An accountant will likely examine bank books as the bank closed in 1929 and has paid one ten percent dividend.
Sheriff Frank Sager and his assistant spent Saturday filing more than 400 driver license applications as rain kept many from town. Through today about 2850 county residents have applied, with around 7000 more expected before January 1, 1982, stressing the office in December unless November yields more applicants.
Albert Fay, a Leroy township farmer, saw a large wolf while husking corn. He borrowed Clyde McConkey’s shotgun, drove around the field, and fired four volleys, wounding and killing the wolf after a short chase. Fay previously hunted in Canada and notes this is the first wolf shot in the area for some time.
The Ladies' Aid of the Congregational church hosts a covered dish supper in the church basement on Thursday November 19 at 7 oclock. Members and friends of the church are invited to attend.
Adolf Biermann longtime Tripoli resident dies at 65 after a brief illness of chronic mild carditis. Born April 6, 1866 in Beecher Illinois, he moved with his family to Iowa, married Emma Nolte in 1891, had three children, and remarried Mathilda Nolte. Survived by wife, two sons Adolf and Herman, daughter Mrs Carl Neuendorf, eight grandchildren, six brothers, three sisters, and many relatives. Funeral conducted November 15 at St Peter's Evangelical church Siegel with burial in its cemetery.

In front of a packed Tripoli Opera House crowd, Roland Drewis from Tripoli defeated Iron Man Dudley of Oelwein two falls to one in a three fall wrestling match. Dudley won the first fall in six minutes. Drewis took the next two in 6 minutes 8 seconds and 8 minutes 10 seconds. Drewis dominated with power, lifting and pinning Dudley in the final fall after a tough exchange.
A majority of Tripoli business houses will close at 9 30 a m on Thanksgiving day and stay closed for the rest of the day. Restaurants and recreation parlors will remain open.
The Y P S C E of the Congregational church will hold a bake sale at the church to raise funds for church activities and programs. Proceeds support community outreach and youth engagement.
The Hampton Chronicle praises the Trippic Leader as one of the state’s best small town papers. Publisher Lee O. Peacock is credited with delivering superior journalism to Tripoli, a town smaller than many.
Mr and Mrs Wm Grebien of Tripoli marked their 59th wedding anniversary with a surprise gathering at home hosted by children and friends. Guests shared a meal, exchanged gifts, and time was spent in pleasant visits as the couple anticipates their 60th anniversary. Mr Grebien nears 82 and Mrs Grebien is past 83 with good health noted.
Frederika Special reports a surprise birthday gathering for Mrs Seth McGee on her anniversary. Guests included Lea Holm and relatives from Douglas township, with J C Carney D W Ager F B Ager C C Clary Fred Bergman and others attending. The evening featured games supper at midnight and a pink rose decorated cake. Mrs McGee received a monetary gift from attendees.
Mr and Mrs Nels Debel of this city marked twenty years of marriage with a Sunday anniversary gathering at their home. Relatives from Waterloo Sumner and local families attended while Mrs Debel and guests prepared an anniversary dinner. Mr Debel serves as city marshal.
The marriage of Miss Helen Hastings to Vernon Larson was performed in Princeton Missouri in January 1931. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hastings, graduated from Waverly High and Mercy Hospital nursing school in 1930. The couple will reside on the groom’s farm after March 1, 1952, while Mrs. Larson continues nursing at Cedar Falls. Also noted is the upcoming Legion Charity Carnival in the Community hall November 19–20 with prizes and entertainment. Marguerite Sheinfelt opens a new beauty parlor over Brandenburg's Jewelry store.
Miss Adela Lohman is recovering from a severe eye wound suffered at her home last Sunday evening. She was taken to Mercy hospital where doctors found the eyeball unharmed but required stitches to close the wound. She is staying with her uncle and aunt, Mr and Mrs Chris Stehn, for treatment.
In a heavy downpour on Wednesday night November 11, Waverly defeated Nashua 3 touchdowns to 1, marking Nashua's first score against Waverly this season as a large crowd braved the rain to watch. Also, Gold Hill couple Ed and Mrs Runyard to celebrate their golden wedding on November 15. They married fifty years ago in this city and their son Carl C. Runyard resides here.
J F Grawe a civil war veteran, long ill and confined at home, shows marked improvement and can sit up part of the day after several weeks of illness. The report notes his steadier condition and ongoing recovery.
A meeting of the Retail Merchant's Association last week arranged for Christmas decor plans including a large bridge arch and lighted trees from Kaiser furniture to Goodrich & Gallagher's produce plant. Committees were formed. Miss Nora Casper remained home ill. Elmer and Mrs. Sewell travel to Tripoli for winter with Jasper Sewell’s family. Mrs. Gies, sister-in-law of Mrs. Meyer, died in Lawrence Kansas November 1. Mrs. Hicks sought Mayo Clinic care in Rochester Minnesota for goitre requiring surgery. Henry Mishler shows improvement after gall trouble. John Brock of Los Angeles visited his sister Mrs. Taber and brother Will Brock. Leonard Racker hosted a six o'clock dinner with guests Supt. Clevenger, Miss Wetherell, Miss Olson. Mrs. McDowell leaves for Glidden Iowa to visit sister. A number attended Miss _____ funeral.
