Annual Thanksgiving turkey giveaway set for Wednesday at 3 00 p m at Warner Electric corner Farmers Store master drawing held after merchants collect signed tickets from their shops winners must be present and only one turkey per family Shoppers urged to register often for a chance to win
The event honored R. Gross as guest of honor at a noon luncheon on November 12 at the Tri Town Hall. Over 50 attendees heard him discuss legislation from the current session, Cuban immigration policy, and the Viet Nam war, while Tripoli Jaycees sponsor a turkey shoot starting at 1:00 pm Sunday at east Tripoli Grain and Feed.
Sumner held a steady lead and drew fouls, but the Kpoli Panthers closed strong. Greg Dana led the Panthers with 13 points while Sumner's top scorer had 18. Reserve game went 54-30 with Sumner field goals decisive. Other results listed: Denver over NewAlford 61-35.
Catherine Hurmence daughter of Mr and Mrs Hur mence and a Tripoli Community High School senior is one of three piano accompanists chosen for the all state music festival November 26 27 in Des Moines After winning the Manchester preliminary October 30 she traveled to Des Moines November 6 to audition finalists judged on musicianship and technique Two Drake University professors judged the final in Des Moines with two accompanists joining the 600 member all state chorus and one in all state band and Hurmence will be one of the two choral accompanists.
Services were held today at Kaiser Carson Chapel Waverly for Bruce Douglas Klemp seven weeks old. Interment followed at Harlington Cemetery Waverly. He died Monday evening at home. Surviving are his parents a sister Dawn four a brother Alan two grandparents Mr and Mrs Arnold Garner of Waverly and Mr and Mrs R F Klemp of Tripoli great grandmother Mrs Martha Pries of Waverly and great grandparents Mr and Mrs John Sassmann of Tripoli.
Louis Gaede returned Thursday from Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo, ending a short medical stay. He was admitted earlier for treatment and is now home recovering.
Mrs Walter Beisner returned Monday from Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
Tripoli VFW Post sponsors a fish fry at the Post Home Friday November 19 with serving hours 5 30 to 8 00. Admission is 1 00 for adults and 50 cents for children.
The Cedar-Wapsie basketball week begins Friday with Denver at Wapsie Valley Dunkerton at Turkey Valley Fredericksburg at Janesville Tri polit at Plainfield. On November 23 Denver visits Dunkerton Wapsie Valley plays Fredericksburg Janesville meets Tripoli and Turkey Valley faces Plainfield.
A color sound film titled God Is My Land lord will be shown at the Brotherhood meeting in Grace Lutheran church on Thursday Nov. 18 at 8 00 p m. Notable figures such as Henry Ford Captain Eddie Rickenbacker R G Le Tourneau Dr Walter A Maier and James L Kraft appear in the film which is described as educational and inspiring and the public is invited to attend.
Tripoli Community Chest fund drive is 92 percent complete leaving a $183 shortfall toward a $2,545 goal. Campaign chairman Kenneth Freyholdt says some individuals and a few organizations remain to be solicited and invites donations via Mr Freyholtz or American Savings Bank.
Bremer county Board of Supervisors in regular session November 8 approved the 1966 farm to market program listing projects. Bituminous treated base paving and shoulder work from Bremer on the Bremer Westgate road to the Chickasaw line worth 292500. Shoulder work from Iowa 3 to Wapsie Consolidated School at 73100. Grading on the Black Hawk county line near Janesville part of a joint project costing 3000.
The Iowa Highway Patrol driver license examiners will be at the Tripoli Town Hall Saturday morning from 8 to noon. Residents of Tripoli and surrounding area may renew a license or apply for a new one. The team will not return until Saturday, Dec. 18.
Tripoli area residents are reminded that all businesses will close Thursday November 25 for Thanksgiving per the Tripoli Commercial Club. Postmaster Ray H Fink says no window service rural delivery or dispatch on that day. the lobby stays open while star route mail is placed in boxes. Tripoli Community Schools will not meet November 25 or 26 with early dismissals on Wednesday at 200 PM in Tripoli and 220 PM in Frederika, per Superintendent Howard Pigg.
Carrie BE Bender 78 died at daughter Olive Merick’s Independence home Saturday born December 18 1886 near Fairbank daughter of Orvis and Haun Call. Funeral Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Readlyn burial Grove Hill Rev Paul Schaedig officiated survived by four daughters plus siblings and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Tripoli girls win both opening non conference games at Fayette. Reserve 43 23. varsity 69 45. Pantherettes lead early and hold on despite some off shooting. Kris Ryan tops reserves with 16 points. Susan Biermann 12. Nancy Burrow 10.
A program to explain the sport of wrestling will be held Saturday evening at Tri Poli High School gymnasium. It starts at 8 p m with coach John Samuelson outlining the fundamentals and the local team will perform a wrestling demonstration to close the event.
Tripoli High School T Club hosts a benefit chili supper in the high school cafeteria on Wednesday December 1. Proceeds fund new athletic equipment with all you can eat for 75 cents adults and 50 cents for children under seven.
Plainfield subscribers begin using automatic electric dialing as the Butler Bremer Mutual system completes conversions across Frederika Tripoli and Plainfield. The $150000 project lowers manual switchboards, introduces direct distance dialing to many U S cities, and adds a 10 station fire call setup. Mayor Ed Waltemate placed the first long distance call to Drake University.
Interstate Power Co invites the public to an appliance showing at their Tripoli office on Friday 10 a m to 4 p m and Saturday 10 a m to 8 p m Nov 19 and 20. Attendees may register for a free T C B turkey cooked in the Monarch electric range. Free pancakes sausage and coffee will be served both days.
