Special luncheon by the Commercial Club Friday noon features Congressman H. R. Gross. He will discuss new legislation from the latest session and answer questions. Members are urged to make reservations with secretary Ray Bunger by today.
The 1965 Christmas seal campaign in Tripoli begins in November with mailings to residents. Scott Carpenter serves as national chairman. Proceeds fund tuberculin tests chest X rays and education, now also fighting emphysema asthma and other chest ailments. TR goal for the Tripoli community is 496.42 dollars. Send local contributions to Mrs. H. J. Frese or deposit in the Christmas seal box at Warner Electric.
Tripoli Commercial Club’s promotion committee announces a free turkey drawing. 25 turkeys will be awarded to a Wednesday November 24 drawing at Water Electric corner. Registration begins Thursday at participating local businesses. winners must be present to claim.
August G. Meyer 85 died Saturday at Hillcrest Nursing Home Sumner. Funeral services Monday at St John’s Lutheran Spring Fountain WL J Gutermuth officiating. Interment in church cemetery. Bearers Waylord Clarence Boderman Her Boderman Leo Meyer Dal Meyer and Wm A Kuker. Survived by two sons Albert Fred Frika and Lorenz rural Sumner and one daughter Mrs Herman Meier. Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
Denver schools will receive a federal Title I allocation of 13 577 dollars for projects aiding students with below average success chances. No local match is required. funds may hire extra staff, remedial programs, and related services.
The Tripoli Community Chest drive stands at 2 035 of 2 545 dollars. Campaign chairman Kenneth Freyholtz reports 510 dollars remain to reach the goal with plans to close the drive this weekend if contributors come forward this week.
The Waverly branch of the American Association of University Women meets tonight at 7:45 at 302 First St SE. Mrs. Fred Studier will report on the triennial conference of the International Federation of University Women, held in Brisbane, Australia with delegates from 51 national associations.
The town of Frederika has been granted a 1500 loan by the Community Facilities Administration in Washington DC to plan a sewer system costing about 60000. The announcement notes the project aims to improve municipal services and infrastructure planning.
Tripoli VFW post will sponsor a fish fry at the Post Home on Friday November 19 with serving from 5 30 to 6 00 pm. Admission is 1 00 and children 50 cents. Proceeds support veterans and post activities.
Tripoli Community School will offer adult education courses after a student survey. Howard Pigg, the school superintendent, announced registration from December 13 to 17. Courses include driver education, typing, welding, math, decorating, knitting, sewing, German, and photography. Classes start January 3.
Tri poli High School begins its first year of wrestling with coach John Samuelson guiding 25 boys. Ten dual meets are planned and the school will host a wrestling tournament. A public wrestling clinic is set for Saturday November 20 at 8:00 p.m. in the high school gym.
Farmers may obtain Hunting With Permission signs from the Wapsie Sportsmen's Club to mark fields where hunters must ask permission. Signs are available at Towne's 66 Service Buhr's DX Station Ambrose Oil Co and Interstate Power Co in Tripoli for farmers to display and alert hunters.
Bremer county veterans plan a Veterans Day walk at 7 30 p m in Waverly from the Bremer Avenue bridge to the courthouse. A ceremony will follow in the courthouse square. Participants may sign a resolution backing U S policy in Vietnam and donations will fund Christmas packages for Bremer county servicemen.
Cedar-Wapsie football coaches named the all conference teams. Members come from Wapsie Valley Denver Janesville Turkey Valley Fredericksburg Tripoli Dunkerton and Plainfield. Denver led with the most selections.
Tripoli Community school system will have no classes Friday November 12 for parent teacher conferences in elementary and junior and senior high. Early dismissal Tuesday November 16 at 2 pm in Tripoli and 2:20 pm at Frederika for a self evaluation program. Thanksgiving vacation begins Wednesday November 24 with 2 pm Tripoli and 2:20 Frederika dismissal and no school Thanksgiving day or Friday.
Wendell Bedies returned Wednesday from Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo where he had been a surgical patient.
Neighbors assisted at the Howard Burman farm Monday to pick corn due to the illness of Mr. Burman. Helpers included Les Peters, Paul Anhalt, Erwin Drape, Wm. Burman, Leonard Colburn, Erwin Bock, Arlan Boeckmann, Duane Peters, Carl Schwemm, Paul Tiedt, Richard Straube, and Wm. Winzenburg. Dinner was provided by neighborhood ladies.
The Harlem Satellites, touring team from New York, will face the Area All-stars in an exhibition at Denver High School on Monday November 15 at 8 p m. The Area lineup includes former SCI star Pete Spoden Bob Hilmer and coaches Ed Ware George Webber and Harold Cole among others.
Tripoli nursing home board met to handle routine business and urged additional pledged funds to continue construction. Melvin Krumm will collect pledges at American Savings Bank and issue 5 percent interest bearing certificates. Interested lenders may contact Mr. Krumm at the bank.
The Tripoli Commercial Club will hold a regular dinner meeting at Tripoli Town Hall on Monday at 7 p.m. Dinner is provided by Faith United church women. The agenda includes the annual election of officers with a president, vice president, treasurer and two directors. An attendance drive seeks dinner RSVPs by Friday noon.
Elinor Block reports Tripoli Public Library marking Children’s Book Week from Oct 31 to Nov 6 with visits by elementary groups from Tripoli and Frederika and 376 participants including 16 teachers. Over 1,000 books loaned, 45 new books added, and bookmarks given. aims to foster library use and reading.
Tripoli Pantherettes begin basketball with a Friday night game at Fayette led by coach Dave Van Ahn. Key starters include Schweer Wente Everding Shonka Colburn Meyer Biermann, with Shonka and Colburn in guard spots and Biermann in forward. The schedule lists non conference tussles with Sumner and a full set of upcoming dates through March 19.
Tripoli High School Panthers finish 4-4 with 90 points for and 60 against. Sam Kehe led in passing and scoring with 337 yards and 6 total TDs. Jim Krumm top in receptions, punt returns, and team scoring. Lawain Judisch recorded 39 tackles and 75 assists on defense. Opponents listed include Sumner Denver Janesville and Wapsie Valley.
The Cedar Valley Art Association will meet Thursday evening November 11 at 8 o clock in the First National Bank Lounge Waverly. Helen Wright is in charge of the program.
Annual peanut days sponsored by the Iowa Retail Hardware Association will be held November 19 and 20. Bremer county IRHA dealers Niewoehner's Waverly Meyer's Sumner and Tripoli Hardware participate. People eat all the peanuts they can and leave shells on the floor while contributing to the Iowa Association for Retarded Children.
