Miss Ida Snelling and William Schlichting wed Sunday May 27 at 4 pm at the Joe Snelling home east of town. Rev E F Byers of Tripoli officiated with Edna Schuldt at piano. Attendants were Irene Schlichting and Lawrence Snelling. The bride wore white organdy with blue accents and carried Calla Lilies. the groom wore a dark suit. A two course dinner followed, with blue and white decorations and a wed ding cake by Edna Schuldt. The couple will reside in Denver where he runs a barber shop.
Louie Bodermann and daughters hosted a farewell gathering Monday evening as 14 families joined in at the home before they left for Sumner the next day. The event featured 500 with high scores by Mrs. Ernest Bodermann and Ben Moeller, followed by a luncheon. Attendees included Paul and Mrs Schroeder, Walter and Mrs Bodermann, Ferd Meyer and Alberta, August Kuker and Lorena, Henry Kirchmann and son, Ben Moeller and family, John Struck and daughters, Charles Thompson and daughters, Emil Steege and daughters, Albert Volker and JoAnn, Albert Rieck and sons, Ernest Bodermann, and Theodore Stahlhut and Darlene.
Bremer county buttermakers district two held a Tuesday afternoon convention at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Qualley. High judges’ scores awarded Leon Qualley first for batter 94, George Heine second 93, Paul Schroeder third 98. Carl Meier Artesian and Charles Pinch Siegel tied for first in men’s judging. Leon Qualley second. Ladies’ judging went to Mrs. Charles Pinch, with Mrs. Ehlert Dukerton second and Mrs. George Heine third. A picnic supper followed.
E A Carstensen, who has run a barber shop in the Hub Billiard Parlor, forms a partnership with Fred Warnke in the barber business. They will occupy the building used by Mr Warnke with three chairs in operation, Wesley Bockhaus as the third chair barber. Mr and Mrs Henry Warneke of near Horton visited at the home of his parents Mr and Mrs John Warneke Sunday afternoon.
County auditors received the revised election law handbook from Secretary of State Mrs. Alex Miller. The updates include a summary of elective laws and a duties outline for precinct boards, with the absentee voter chapter revised to curb abuses. Absentee ballots must be marked and delivered to the auditor before election day, making June 2 the final receipt date for the coming primary.
Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Sorg hosted a family dinner Sunday honoring Mrs. Sarah Sorg who returned from Minneapolis after wintering with her son R. R. Sorg. Guests included A. D. Knox and son Leeallen of Hawkeye, H. Me Sorg family, Evalyn, Mary Bopp, and Nellie Lyman of Corectionville. Mrs. Sorg plans to spend summer with children in Iowa.
The undersigned will sell at public sale on Saturday June 9 1934 at 2 o'clock p m one frame school building about 46 by 28 by 10 feet and one Mueller pipeless furnace. Terms and conditions made known on date of sale. Independent School District of Tripoli M W Bennett secretary.
In district court a case titled State of Town versus Elmer Joslin appears with a bond to keep the peace sought as the action. The filing indicates a peace bond request in the court docket.
One hundred thirty six eighth grade graduates of Bremer county rural schools will receive diplomas at the commencement in the high school auditorium Wednesday afternoon June 6. Miss Jessie M. Parker of the state department will deliver the address. Valedictorian is Paul Goings of Polk school No 1 with a 97.8 average. Harold Briggs teaches there.
Mr and Mrs Henry Bunger hosted relatives at their home Sunday to mark his 77th birthday anniversary which fell on Saturday May 26 The 12 30 dinner guests were their children and grandchildren H J Bunger and son R J Bunger Ed Bunger and family Elmer Shipp and daughter and Mrs Strottman The after noon and supper guests included Emma Ashbrenner and children Emma and Henry Groening Miss Emma Denver Emma Groening Mr Bunger remains active despite aging
St Pauls Evangelical church of Dayton township will hold its annual mission festival on Sunday June 3. Morning services begin at 10:00 with Rev M Kleinan pastor, Rev Matzner of Deaconess hospital Marshalltown delivering the sermon. Afternoon services start at 2:00 with Rev Pfeiffer Siegel and Rev W Koch Fredericksburg preaching. Matzner will speak about the hospital. Klein an extends a cordial invitation to everyone.
The Des Moines Ford party included Fred Bock and Herman Nevermann as guests of dealer Wm. Ambrose. They toured the Ford plant and noted drought effects on crops along the route, with pastures burned out and cattle short of feed, while wells and pumps were being repaired to obtain water.
Mrs. Anna Tiedt and daughter visited at Mrs. Lena Lohmann’s home. Nellie Lyman of Correctionville will stay several weeks at H. H. Sorg’s home. Norma Warnke returned from Waverly to help in the tele phone office. E C Johnson attended Mount Hope commencement for nephew Leo Morgan. The Schlichting family marked Harry’s confirmation Irene’s graduation and William’s May 27 marriage in quick succession.
Miss Verna Milroy became the bride of Dexter Krueger in a simple ceremony at the bride’s parents’ home in Manchester on Monday afternoon May 28 at 2 30. Rev. Moore conducted the ceremony with Miss Dahlia Krueger singing I Love You Truly. The couple were attended by Mr and Mrs Norman Nagel and will reside in Tripoli after a week’s Iowa trip.
The Biermann family held its annual reunion at the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred A. Biermann on Sunday May 27. Numerous relatives attended including H Biermann Harms Brase A Biermann Drape Gebert Moeller and many others. The group decided the next reunion will be on Theodore Biermann farm May 26 1935. Nearby visitors from Waterloo were P H Lynch his son Dickie Fred Allen and others who planned to visit family at Scheve Lenius and Lien homes.
The W C T U sponsored seventh and eighth grade essay contest in Waverly schools with prizes awarded. Edna Lee took first in seventh grade, Gertrude Ford second. Edward Maxwell first in eighth grade, Marjorie Henn second. Essays asked why Rule G is necessary, the railroad rule prohibiting intoxicating liquor for employees.
Dedication services for the near completed Rotary Boy Scout log cabin will be held Thursday evening June 7 with boy scout workers from across the Wapsipinicon area gathering for a dinner attended by Rotary members and their wives. Scouts bring their own meals and Rotary will provide ice cream Rev John D Clin ton of Fayette former local Boy Scout master will speak.
The Waverly Fire Department responded to a blaze at the Barclay home Monday around 9 30 p m. John Nerge who lives there heard a kitten’s cries and found the garage fire with the car top on fire. The flames had spread to stored items upstairs but quick firefighting kept overall damage low.
The first hole-in-one on the new Waverly course was by Leslie Hull on hole seven, 134 yards, with Dr. Carstensen present. Hull retrieved the ball after it landed in the hole. Also noted: Joe Cretzmeyer VFW received ten Kragg army rifles via Rep. A. C. Willford for Memorial Day firing squad. Arlo Corbell bought the Emil Seeman residence. William Liebau Jr. recovering from ruptured appendix at Mercy hospital. Mrs. M. M. Kingsley attends son Neil’s Naval Academy graduation in Annapolis. Rotsey Stephenson family from Madison visiting and planning trip to southern state and Chicago World’s Fair. Beverly Ladage sustains knee injuries at Luther College track meet in Decorah.
