Malzahn Dies After Stroke at 80 in Frederika Area

Christian Frederick Malzahn died at 2:00 a.m. on May 17 at age 80 years 6 months and 13 days at his daughter Mrs Will Buls home near Frederika. He suffered a paralytic stroke Sunday and did not recover. He leaves wife and two daughters Mrs Will Buls west of Frederika and Mrs A F Biermann Douglas township. One daughter preceded him in death in 1917. Funeral May 20 at 1:00 p.m. at the Buls home and church service at St Peters Evangelical with Rev Theo Thomas.

Eighteen Tripoli Seniors to Receive Diplomas at Commencement

Eighteen seniors from Tripoli high school, 11 boys and 7 girls, will receive diplomas at the commencement exercises held Thursday evening May 18 at 8 o'clock in the opera house. Rev. E Forrest Byers will deliver the commencement address. The program includes music by the high school glee clubs, scripture reading by Rev. E A Hanff, presentation of the class by Supt A A Belknap, and awarding of diplomas by Sec M W Bennett. The class roster lists Mabel Gebert, Lester Boeckman, Nelson Niemeyer, Arnold Zander, Thelma Bolte, Waldron Duecker, Raymond Block, Homer Nevermann, Clifford Kleiss, Robert Sorg, Lucinda Dohrman, Rosalea Watermann, Wesley Bockhaus, Viola Hackbarth, Francis Rebholz, Earl Judas, Helen Jacobson, and Muriel Tiedt.

Auxiliary County Meeting Held Here

The American Legion Auxiliary of Bremer county held a meeting Monday afternoon May 15 with 40 present in the Legion hall. Four of five county units attended including Plainfield Waverly Sumner and Tripoli while Janesville sent no delegation. The program featured a talk by Mrs Roy Pell hospital work and veterans programs across the state along with reports from unit presidents and the annual activities. Election of county officers followed.

Fairbank Opens Cedar Valley League With Big Win

In Plainfield Fairbank and Plainfield debuted in Cedar Valley league before a large crowd. Fairbank defeated Plainfield 11 to 1 as Shell dominated on the mound and Shadbolt fanned 10 over eight innings. Smith relieved in the ninth.

Buhr Wedding Anniversary Observed by Family

On Sunday May 14th Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Buhr marked their thirtieth wedding anniversary with a 5:30 dinner for their children and a few relatives. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Buhr, Richard, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Warner, Ernest Seehase of Buck Creek, Emma Kasemeier and Frie da Kasemeier Rhinehardt of Sumner, Henry Kasemeier and Hulda Kasemeier of Buck Creek, and Carl Neuendorf of Frederika. The evening featured cards, visiting, and a lunch served by Mrs. Buhr and her daughter.

Pioneer Woman Helen Freitag Dies at 80 in Readlyn Area

Helen Freitag aged 80 years died May 12 at 4 a.m. at the home of son-in-law John Koschmeder and granddaughter Mrs. Ross Kelsey after a two year illness. Born Helen Carstensen in Cook County Illinois on April 28 1853 she came to Bremer County in 1869. She married John Freitag March 4 1880 and lived on a farm near Tripoli until two years ago. Survived by son-in-law six grandchildren six great-grandchildren one sister and one brother with many relatives and friends. Funeral services were held May 14 at the Kelsey home then at St Matthew's Lutheran Church Readlyn with burial in the church cemetery.

Farm Bureau Picnic Planned Near Plainfield June 21

The Bremer county farm bureau picnic will be held one-half mile east of Plainfield on Wednesday June 21 with M S Winder national secretary of the American farm bureau federation as speaker. Officials expect a large turnout from Chickasaw and Butler counties and aim to match the 1925 crowd. Local plans are being prepared for citizen attendance and a later announcement. Other notes mention residents Fred Ambrose and Mrs Westendorf relocating and visits by Cedar Rapids families.

Miss Amanda Bock celebrated her twentieth birthday with a May 10 gathering at her parents home in Leroy township. Banking plans move forward as deposits sign

Since the mailing of agreements by American Savings Bank last Friday, over 150 depositors have signed within five days. Tragic death of Emil Buehrer in Minnesota fire

T M Buehrer of this city reports the death of his brother Emil Buehrer who burned to death in a house fire while visiting another brother's home in Swanville Minnesota. He was 58 and survived by two daughters and one son. Otto Buehrer of Waterloo attended the funeral held at the house and First Lutheran church.

Resigns as Secretary of Lutheran Mutual Aid Society

At a nine oclock meeting of the board of directors last week G A Grossmann resigned as secretary of the Lutheran Mutual Aid Society. Walter G Voecks, the society actuary for two years, was elected to replace him and will begin June 1. Grossmann has served 34 years, citing ill health as the reason for stepping down. Eight applicants sought the vacancy.

Little Edith Lynes Hospitalized With Fractures After Car Incident

Little Edith Lorraine Lynes six year old child of Mr and Mrs Kendall Lynes residing between here and Plainfield is a Mercy hospital patient with a badly fractured thigh bone below the hip a broken collar bone and other cuts from leaping from a car brought her to school and running in front of another vehicle she has been placed in a cast and will take many weeks to recover
