Flora Ellis Dies at 80 After Lifelong Waverly Stay
Miss Flora Ellis died May 6 at Waterloo hospital at age 80. She came to Waverly with her parents in 1853 and lived here until this winter when she moved to Waterloo to live with a niece. She was an Episcopal member and survived by sister Mrs Edna Brula and brother Ira of Oregon and sister Mrs Curtis of Denver. Burial was in Harlington cemetery. The third district Legion and Auxiliary conference meets in Manchester May 14 with Mrs Gernsey presiding. Frank B. Champlin, Horace Willey, Neal Mastain and Dr Mason Martin listed as leaders. Music and reports begin at 10:00 a.m. and end with a dance at Knight's of Columbus hall at 9:30 p.m.

Victim of Stroke and Local Track Results Featured
Mrs Henry Hartman died after a stroke on Monday May 11 at noon. Elmer Hartman of Salt Lake City and Carl Hartman of this city, with her husband, survive. No funeral plans yet. A newborn daughter Lloyd Sager arrived at Mercy hospital and is now home. At the northeastern Iowa district track meet in Cedar Falls Waverly won one first with Lyle Carpenter pole vaulting 10 3, and Elmer Spier placed in the 440 yard run. Waverly placed eighth as Dubuque led. Richard Hardin won a state contest chance and has a job offer with Kryl’s band at $60 weekly. The junior college track meet is set for May 16 in Waverly, Wartburg to attend. Catholic Ladies Auxiliary met May 12 serving a 25 cent luncheon. banquet May 21 at the community basement with about 150 expected. Raymond Morrill joined 36 sailors in Des Moines bound for San Diego. Mrs Emma Patterson and family visited from Oelwein. Art Havenstate of the Great Western bridge crew was in Oelwein on week’s end. Mary Ladage will compete in the Iowa State typing contest after second place in district meet.
