Tripoli Opens Cedar Valley League with Shell Rock win
Tripoli defeated Shell Rock 10 to 4 in the Cedar Valley league opener at the local ball park. Krueger struck out 12 over seven innings, while Welcher allowed 10 hits and six strikeouts for Shell Rock. Errors went against Tripoli four times and Shell Rock three times.

While tearing down an old building north-west of town, William Bany uncovered a New York Tribune issue dated October 38 1856. The readable paper bore the name W O Bostwick a pioneer. Franklin Pierce was president. Market page showed hogs 7 to 8 dollars cows 25 to 50 dollars corn 70 to 73 cents.

A family gathering at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Warneke celebrated the 86th birthday of Mr. Warneke, born May 5. Fire Destroys Wall Building in Sumner District
Sumner's third fire in the business district in as many months struck Sunday about 6 30 p m when the building owned by M E Wall of Waterloo was nearly wrecked. The hamburger shop operated by Mrs Morris Jacob was inside. An employee attempting to light a gas stove while the burner was warm caused an explosion. Miss Ella Jacob and Erwin Adams suffered minor burns to hands and arms while trying to halt the blaze. The interior was ruined and the framing heavily charred. Neighboring stores were unharmed.

Sumner voters approved building a municipal electric light plant at a cost not to exceed 115000 by a 211 vote margin. Of 825 ballots cast 518 favored municipal action and 307 favored Central States.
