First Polio Shots Given in Sumner Schools

Children in Tripoli and Surne ing school districts received initial polio vaccines in Sumner on Tuesday morning. Local pupils rode school buses to the clinic and faced the shot with little fear, perceived as a fun trip. The National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis funded the vaccine, administered at no charge by Bremer County Medical Society members across the county.

Panthers Ousted from Sectional By New Hampton 9-8

Tripoli High School baseball team was eliminated in the first round of the sectional tournament in Fredericksburg. New Hampton rallied with a ninth inning swing after trailing 8-7 in the sixth, as Schlendwein belted a home run to seal a 9-8 win.

Second Meeting On Reorganization Of School

Public information meeting on reorganization of Tripoli area school districts will be held Friday at 8 o'clock at the school house. Glenn Holmes of Iowa State College will speak and the executive committee will answer questions from the public.

Services Sunday For Mrs. Mary Tegtmeier

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Tegtmeier 79 were held Sunday at Rettig Funeral Home and St. Peter’s Evangelical and Reformed Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. She died of a heart attack after illness. born December 27 1875 in Jefferson township. Survived by sons Ewald and Alfred, daughters Reinholdt Foelske and Alma, two brothers William and Ernest Haase, and sister Mrs John Koch. Husband Fritz Tegtmeier died in 1930.

Kindergarten Class Here Next Year To Have 12 Members

Tripoli will host a 12 pupil kindergarten next year after registration by Mrs. R J Bunger. The process on April 21 and 22 included health checks by the county nurse and parent questionnaires. Eligible pupils must be five on or before November 15, 1955, with listed Registrants including Ambrose, Bock, Buckley, Fink, Hoppenworth, Haskovec, Juel, Lahmann, Milius, Ragsdale, and Ryan.

Committee Named To Promote June Dairy Month Activities

A Bremer county panel led by Wm. Mueller announced a committee to coordinate the June Dairy Month program. The group will meet Friday May 13 at the Farm Bureau office in Waverly to plan activities for June, with members from Waverly Tripoli Sumner Waterloo Denver and Janesville.

Two Traffic Cases Before Mayor In April

Two traffic cases were called before Mayor Rudolph Piegers during April. Each filing came from Marshal Ed Bany. Donald Buls was fined $2 plus costs for parking in a restricted area. Ferdinand R. Klenzman was fined $10 plus costs for careless driving.

Repair Of Tripoli Streets To Start Soon

Mayor Rudolph Piegers said repairs to Tripoli streets ruined by the spring thaw will begin in the near future. Materials for the work are to be delivered soon and some sections will be fully replaced while others receive pothole filling. The deterioration was blamed on rapid surface thaw with lingering frost below.

The community enjoyed one of its finest springs with mild warmth and sunny days. Temperatures reached 85 degrees on Monday and Tuesday amid a growing season still progressing well. Tornado and hail warnings saturated western and central Iowa as spring weather showed its volatile side.

Northeastern Association Meeting at Decorah

Rev. and Mrs. L. E. Gatch and several others attended the Northeastern Association meeting of Congregational Christian churches in Decorah. Mrs. H. J. Frese serves as secretary of the women’s work. Mrs. Leslie Kelsey was elected missionary education and stewardship chairman. Rev. Gatch became recording secretary of the association.

Red Sox Open Season At Greene Diamond This Sunday

Tripoli's independent Red Sox begin their season next Sunday with a non league game at Greene Diamond starting at 2 p m. Manager Walter Beisner has drilled the squad but several players remain unavailable due to school. Cedar Valley league managers meet tomorrow to schedule a six team season with Oran joining. first loop games May 22 and Sundays thereafter.

Teen-Ager Driving Club Formed in Iowa Safety Drive

An Iowa teen age driving club was formed under Gordon R. Spears and John J. Casey to promote safer driving and community safety. Members aged 13 to 20 with licenses may join and receive decals. Officers include Terry Dreyer president Fritz Krueger VP Barbara Burman secretary Marvin Gatch reporter.

The American Legion Auxiliary sponsors a Memorial Poppy Poster Contest for grades five to eight at Tripoli School with Mrs. Lowell Goodenbour as chair. Posters will be judged at the auxiliary meeting next Tuesday and displayed the week before Poppy Day on May 28. Memorial poppies honor war dead and are made by disabled veterans. this year’s supply has been received by the Bocknaus-Bartels unit.
