Five children were registered last Wednesday for kindergarten at Tripoli Elementary. Snow delays disrupted the initial enrollment date, leaving some eligible five year olds yet to be registered. Parents are asked to make appointments at Buhr Kindergarten to complete enrollment, with officials to remind others by Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services were held Monday at Faith United Church of Christ for Edwin J. Zander 62. He died Thursday at University Hospital Iowa City. Interment was in Cedar Valley Memorial Park Cemetery Cedar Falls. Casket bearers were Robert Meyer Paul Zander Gerald Zander Earl Boos Leon Klotz and Larry Boerschel. He was born February 4 1909 the son of Henry and Caroline Schellhorn Zander. Survivors include his wife Gladys three daughters Mrs Elroy Leistikow Mrs Raymond Bloom both of Tripoli and Mrs James Leistikow Fairbank one son James E. Zander Charles Cry his mother Mrs Caroline Zander Waterloo and three brothers Lorenz Frederika Arnold Tripoli and Henry Waterloo eleven grand children.
Bremer county selective service board will be closed until April 12 due to emergency leave taken by the secretary. Memo from the local office cites temporary staffing disruption and an authorized office pause.
The Tripoli Young Homemakers sponsor a bake sale April 3 from 9 30 a.m. to 12 00 p.m. at Tracg s Plumbing and Heating. Proceeds go to the Heart and Lung machine.
Palm Sunday confirmation service planned at St. John's American Lutheran Church Crane Creek at 10:00 am on April 4 1971. The class consists of six members Gary Edwards Diane Thies Sharon Brandt Sherri Buss Rebecca Thies and Carl Zander.
Grace Lutheran Church will hold a Good Friday service of German Lenten hymns at 10 00 am on April 9. Pastor Glenn Kappelmann will read the Passion History and give a German meditation. Congregants are asked to bring German hymnals.
Mrs. Lena Lahmann of Vancouver Washington who recently suffered a broken hip has been moved from the hospital to Hillhaven Convalescent Center at 400 East 33rd Street Vancouver Washington 98663 for recovery.
Tripoli cub scouts will hand out goodwill bags on Saturday April 3 with pickup by boy scouts on April 17. Volunteers in Sumner Denver Plainfield Frederikand Fairbank join the effort. Donations at 2640 Falls Avenue Waterloo include clothing toys household wares and furniture with storage limits noted.
Due to a snow vacation, Tripoli Community Schools will hold classes on Good Friday April 9 until 2 15 p m. To makeup missed days the district will conduct sessions on Monday April 12 Thursday May 27 and Friday May 28. The final day of school is Friday May 28.
Thirteen competed in Class Instrumental and Vocal Contests at Denver Community High. The event saw Washington School lead with several division I ratings and Aplington follow closely in vocal divisions with fourteen division I ratings. Winners included Lois Dunleavy and a flute trio among others.
Music mothers host a meeting on Wednesday evening April 7 at 8 at the school home room. The gathering aims to discuss choir activities and plan upcoming performances.

Funeral services were held in Denver for Francis C. Walker 63 at the Cleveland Funeral Home with burial at Fairview Cemetery. He died Wednesday night at Mercy Hospital in Waverly after a month as a patient. Born October 2 1907 in Baxter Iowa he married Vera Clausing in Denver October 14 1934. Survived by wife son William Walker Elk Run Heights daughter Charlotte Morgan Denver five grandchildren one sister Grace Smith Evansdale and two brothers predeceased. He had worked at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works until 1965.
Tripoli Community Junior-Senior High School released the nine week honor roll based on a 3.0 average. Seniors include Courtney Akins and many classmates. juniors, sophomores, freshmen, and eighth graders are named with several spellings.
Bremer County February sales of Series E and H savings bonds total $47,530, pushing two month progress to $100,298 or 21 percent of the 1971 quota. Iowa state February sales reached $7,614,372 with a two month tally of $15,156,849 or 20 percent of its goal. Adams, Fremont, and Mills lead at 36 percent. O'Brien at 35. Adair at 34.
The annual neighbor-to-neighbor Buck Night will be Tuesday, April 27. Clarence Johnson of Winterset returns as Iowa Buck Night chairman for a second year. The event functions as a fund-raiser with direct participation as residents are invited to contribute a buck or more for each person in their household.

The Iowa Employment Security Commission reports February unemployment payments statewide reached 4,743,462.20 dollars for 88,655 weeks. County figures include Linn 414,191.93 dollars for 7,409 weeks and Polk 345,084.09 for 6,549 weeks. Beginning 1972 the law expands coverage to more employers and workers.
The Senior Citizens of the Tripoli area will meet on Wednesday April 7 with a pot luck supper at 6 p.m. Cards will provide the entertainment after the business session.

Cedar-W. coaches named the boys and girls all conference squads at recent meetings. In boys, Barry Boeckmann and Kim Kehe earned first team spots with Denver South Winneshiek and Turkey Valley each receiving a first team inclusion, and Don Barnes named unanimous first team. Girls selections awarded Fredericksburg two spots, with Wapsie Valley Dunkerton Turkey Valley and Denver each placing a girl on the first team. Brenda Moeller and Terry Osterman received unanimous coach selections.

Coe College basketball honors Rick Wittenburg a Tripoli high school alum and six foot sophomore for hustle and enthusiasm. Despite limited minutes he hit 10 of 19 from the field as coach Dave Etienne praises his future impact for the next two seasons. Rick is the son of Mr and Mrs Elmer Wittenburg of Tripoli.
The Cedar-Wapsie conference coaches unveil the all-conference teams led by Turkey Valley with seven first-team picks. Tripoli places three on second team with Lowell Kuecker the lone first-team at 185, featuring multiple TV and WV players across weights.
Last weekend Maple Lanes Waterloo hosted the State Lutheran Bowling tournament with local competitors finishing in the top ten. Grace Lutheran No 1 took third in women with 2768 led by Doris Nerge, Betty Truog, Joyce Nuss, Donna Sauerbrei and Elsie Volker. Doris Nerge top scored in all events with 1795. Gloria Bruns placed tenth in singles with 590. Ron Strottman and Bud Schneider of Readlyn finished tenth in men's doubles.
Minnesota Twins scouts will lead a free boys clinic in Mason City Iowa for ages 9 through 18 at Roosevelt Field on Saturday April 3 at 10 00 am. Angelo Giuliani with assistants John Mauer and Bill Kane will direct the event with support from the Mason City Recreation Committee and the Iowa high school athletic association. The clinic will cover throwing base running sliding infield and outfield play hitting bunting pitching and catching. The Twins supply bats and balls and urge players to bring gloves. This Mason City session is one of 40 clinics this year.
All access roads to Sweet s Marsh areas have been closed to guard against spring breakup damage. Dean Dalziel unit manager says roads will stay closed as long as necessary to ensure minimum damage depending on weather.
