The Tripoli Community School approves a new teaching schedule raising bases to 6950 with 12 steps. Beginning teachers with BA and no experience earn 7645 and max 11085. Contracts due April 17 with 21 days to decide acceptance. The 71 72 calendar starts August 25 with year ending May 23.
The county Crusade committee met March 22 with 11 members. Rev. W. D. Weidler and Mrs Harold Meier led minutes. Dorothy Gogg reported the Loan Closet and Miss discussed films. Charles McGinn Ed Rucker and Mrs. Richard named to nominate committee. Bremner County Crusade chairman named for 1971. Davey Waverly to lead. plans call for start April 1 and run through the month. Next county board meeting May 24.
The Re- Scholarship of Wartburg in Waverly pairs two Denver High seniors Dunleavy and Janice Sch rst to receive 1000 dollars each. Dunleavy gets 500 National se Loan and 500 study program funds. Sch ast also receives a bank of scholarships renewible yearly if grades stay above the required level.
The St. John's Lath church Western Douglas hosts a bake sale Saturday at 9 30 in the morning at the Tripoli King and Heating Shop. Proceeds support church activities.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Faith United Church of Christ for Lawrence Schwartz 65 who died Monday evening at Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo. Burial is in the church cemetery with Rettig Funeral Home in charge. Survivors include his wife Valeria three sons Melvin Triangle James Tacoma Park Md Robert Waverly three daughters Mrs Charles Maschke Rockville Md Mrs David Peterson Minneapolis and Mrs Gerald Lahmann Tripoli also one brother Raymond Tripoli and one sister Mrs Raymond Wedemeier Waverly.
In Denver, St. Pauls United Church of Christ lists 15 confirmands including Jody Kay Prestien and Elizabeth Hutchison. St Peter Lutheran Church confirms 25 youths such as Marlys Walther, Teresa Johnson, John Jessen Jr., and Marilyn Canfield.
The Tripoli Music Mothers sponsor a bake sale on Saturday April 10 from 1 p.m. to 3 30 p.m. at Klemp s Plumbing and Heating Shop.
Four Denver area churches publish Holy Week observances with Palm Sunday confirmations Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services. German and English communions, sunrise Easter services at 6:00 to 6:30 a.m., Easter breakfasts, Sunday School, and sermons including Is Your God Big Enough? are planned by St Pauls United Church of Christ St Johns Lutheran Messiah Lutheran Denver St Peter Parish and associated congregations.
Tripoli Young Homemakers meet Wednesday April 14 at 1 30 PM in Town Hall. Guest Lynn Platte demonstrates cake decorating. Connie Finder hosts and Neysa Franzen prepares nut cups for the Nursing Home.
Grace Lutheran and Faith United Churches present a Tenebrae service on April 9 at 8:00 p.m. at Faith Church. Paul Hamill arranges narration and a combined choir from both churches. The program features Bach and Palestrina works, readings by Courtney Akins Kim Kehe Lowell Kuecker and Denis Ducker with Mrs Joe Brooks directing and Mrs Ray Schwarze on organ.
The Denver Community School will hold Kindergarten Round-up on Friday April 16 at 8 00 a m to enroll children who are five by Sept 15 1971 for the 1971 72 year. Parents to receive appointment times by April 9 or call the Elementary office 984 5620 if not yet contacted. Principal Duane Boehmke urged bringing only the registering child and noted about fifty five entries with staff assisting and ABC Inventory testing for evaluation.
Leo Tonne was rushed to Allen Hospital in Waterloo for an emergency appendectomy Saturday afternoon. Medical staff reported the procedure proceeded without complications and he is expected to recover.
The Denver Community School Board adopts the 1971 72 salary plan with base amounts of 5600 for 60 hour staff 5900 for 90 hour staff 6900 for bachelor of arts teachers and 7550 for master of arts teachers. Staff may volunteer for duties with pay shared among those filling extra roles. Health insurance and leaves are included. janitor pay pending.
Graveside services for Angela Renee Lohnert infant daughter of Juergen and Barbara Lohnert were held at 10 30 a m Tuesday in St Patrick Catholic Cemetery. She was born March 22 at Allen Hospital Waterloo and died Sunday in St Marys Hospital Rochester Minn of a cardiac arrest. Survivors include her parents maternal grandparents Herman Rathe Tripoli and paternal grandparents Robert Lohnert Germany. Services were conducted by Nottger Funeral Home.
Robert Kuhrt attended a life insurance meeting held Wednesday and Thursday at the Cedar Rapids Holiday Inn detailing company plans and industry updates.
Masses of migratory ducks and geese gather around overflowing backwaters near the Wapsie river as high waters flood farmland. The scene shows corn fields in foreground and wooded banks along the Wapsipinicon river attracting waterfowl during migration.
Dog licenses for all Bremer county dogs become delinquent May 1 1971. Owners must send a rabies vaccination certificate with the fee. Fees are 1.00 for male or spayed dogs and 3.00 for females, payable to the Bremer county Auditor. Delinquent dogs incur a 1.00 penalty.
Mr and Mrs Leslie Meier have rented their farm and moved to the home of her mother Mrs Wm Schneer in Tripoli where she had been living with the Meiers.
Maple Hills Country Club plans cleanup around the clubhouse on April 14 and asks members to mark rocks on the course for removal on April 15. The course will not open for play due to weather but evening dinners and a golf rules film are scheduled. Dues for 1971 are $75 with a $60 social option.
Tripoli High prepares for spring sports with boys and girls golf new this year coached by John Pocek. Golf meets total three with 12 boys and 7 girls. first meet April 21 at Clarksville. Boys track has 35 runners led by 13 returning lettermen under Gene Perkins. action begins April 13 at Bulldog Relays Monona.
Tripoli VFW Post members are reminded the annual officer election meeting takes place tonight April 7 at 8 30 p m at the post home. Free fish will be served to members attending after the meeting.
All 4th 5th and 6th grade boys are invited to an intra class basketball event on Saturday April 17 at 1 00 p m in the high school gymnasium. Players are to wear proper gym attire or participate without equipment and report by 12 39 p m for team organization. Dave Ray will supervise with assistance from varsity players.

Kalkbrenner of Tripoli Iowa was named assistant vice president and manager of Crocker Citizens National Bank Mission Beale office in San Francisco California announced by E Louis Cumpston senior vice president regional manager Kalkbrenner joined the bank in 1963 has worked in San Francisco and Daly City and is a member of the American Institute of Banking.
