Plainfield Bank Burglarized. $1000 Stolen From Vault
Plainfield State Bank was burglarized Monday night or evening with about $1000 in silver taken from the vault. Entry was gained through basement doors and a main floor vault door was tampered with. Acetylene tanks and a tear gas bottle were found at the scene. Federal agents and county officials investigate. This marks the third bank crime in Plainfield within 15 months, following two daytime holdups in 1962 that netted $9,425 and $15,000 respectively, with the money later recovered, and another unsolved incident at Hartmann Packing Plant where town marshal William Meadows was killed during the burglars’ escape.

Carl H. Eichmann 81 died this Wednesday morning at Allen Memorial hospital Waterloo after being taken there Tuesday. He lived in Tripoli most of his life. Surviving are sisters Mrs Millie Goodenbour Tripoli and Mrs Bertha Graves Center Point and brothers Frank Eichmann Clarksville and August Tripoli. Arrangements are with Rettig Funeral home at Tripoli.
