Former newspaper man at Waverly dies in Mercy hospital
David H. Murphy 67, longtime Bremer county journalist, died at Mercy hospital Tuesday at 10 AM from a illness complication. Born November 2, 1865 in Trenton New Jersey, he worked in rubber mills before moving west at 20 to Red Deer Alberta where he began a 40 year journalism career. He married Susan Viola Scott January 21 1900. Surviving are his wife, daughter Mrs John Davis Shell Rock and son Veryl S Murphy Sumner. He organized the Waverly Credit Association and aided a cemetery cleanup in Harlington. A lifelong Methodist and Odd Fellow, he worked for the Bremer County Independent and Waverly Democrat before moving to Sumner last December.

Schroeder Twenty-Fifth Wedding Anniversary in Waverly
A circle of about forty-five relatives and friends celebrated Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Schroeder of Waverly on March 18 marking their twenty-five years of marriage. A sumptuous feast ran from 4:00 to 6:30, centered by a white silver-decorated cake baked by daughter Mrs. Elmer Buhr. Rev. L. O. Walper delivered a brief talk as hymns were sung. Attendants from the original ceremony—Mr. and Mrs. Louie Griese and FE. H. Schroeder and Mrs. Martha Pries—rejoined in homage, and the couple received a silver purse as a reminder gift. Out-of-town guests from Denver and Readlyn areas joined the celebration, followed by a late luncheon.

Mrs William Mummelthei Dies After Illness and Fall
Mrs William Mummelthei aged seventy died at her home northeast of this city on Thursday afternoon March 16 after about two months illness, hastened by a fall. She lived here many years and spent thirty on the family farm. The Golden Wedding Anniversary was celebrated January 5. Survived by husband, five children William Waverly Herman Otto George and Mrs Hilda Simmons, one brother John Brandt, three sisters Mrs John Tiedt Artesian Mrs Chris Lindner and Mrs William Lindner of Waverly. Funeral services were Sunday March 19 at Evangelical Peace church with Rev Carl Babler officiating and burial at Harlington cemetery.

Mrs Carstensen Dies After Pneumonia Battle
Mrs Louis Carstensen aged 57 died at her home Saturday morning March 18 after a month illness from pneumonia and heart disease. She was born in Warren Township and lived in Bremer county, on a farm north of the city. Survived by husband, daughter Mrs Forrest Williams, sister Mrs Henry Seekatz, brothers Henry and William Struckmeier, and two grandsons. Funeral held Tuesday at St Pauls Lutheran Church with Rev R C Schlueter officiating.

Dies of Whooping Cough Claims Nashua Child
The remains of Betty Lou Annette, two, daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Annette of Nashua Iowa, were brought for burial in Harlington cemetery. She fell ill four days with whooping cough and is survived by her parents a four year old brother and a one year old sister.
