Herman Banzer longtime Warren Township resident died at his home after a prolonged illness. Born May 22 1869 he would have turned 64 next birthday. He married Anna Henning and had five children along with his widow. Survivors include two brothers and five sisters. Funeral services were held at his home and Crane Creek Lutheran church with Rev Dilges officiating. Burial followed in Crane Creek Lutheran cemetery.
Mr and Mrs Albert Lee sr learned of the death of their daughter in law Mrs How ard Lee in Cedar Rapids after several weeks of kidney trouble. Albert Lee jr and sister Miss Fay traveled from Cedar Rapids to fetch their parents who will stay there until after the funeral.
Bremer County Taxpayers League schedules a mass meeting in Tripoli on Wednesday March 22 at 1 30 PM in the opera house. Arrangements announce a prominent speaker for the event.
Siegel Creamery company held its annual meeting with all officers re-elected. Will Behrens was rehired as buttermaker. The firm has been producing cottage cheese and selling sour and sweet buttermilk in Waterloo and Waverly.
John A. Tegtmeier, 76, died suddenly at his Waverly home on Wednesday morning March 8 from a heart attack. He had not felt well for several days, had a stroke three years ago but had recovered and worked at his business. Born October 22, 1856 in Fremont township, he worked for Bowman Brothers before starting his clothing business 29 years ago. He married Minnie Kohagen in 1884, who died years ago, and he is survived by two children Lucinda Logan and Aaron Tegtmeier, five grandchildren, a brother William H. Tegtmeier, three sisters, and other relatives. Funeral services were held Saturday at Koch funeral home and St. Paul’s Lutheran church. Burial in Harlington cemetery.
Waverly special obituary reports Mrs. W S Kern, 81, died Monday afternoon at her daughter Mrs. L D Jay's home after a seven year illness following a hip fracture. Survived by her husband and four children Dr L C Kern of the city, Mrs L D Jay of Waverly, C D Kern of Chicago, and Frank D Kern of Pennsylvania.
Mr and Mrs Walter Beisner hosted a 6 o'clock Sunday dinner for family and friends to celebrate his birthday which fell on Saturday March 11. Guests included Lena Beisner Will Beisner Will Krueger H F Steidtler A F Eichmann Janela Ann Lorin Alwin Maurer Stephen Betty Ann and others with cards and visiting as entertainment.
Miss Selma Bergmann and Mr. Lorenz Zander united in a double ring ceremony at Siegel Lutheran Church with Rev. C G Gerlach officiating. Esther Biermann played the wedding march. Attendants were Miss Edna Kuecker and Edwin Zander. Reception and dinner followed at the bride’s home in Douglas township. The couple will reside on the bride’s farm with relatives attending from Elmhurst Illinois.
Notice of strict enforcement of speeding laws within Tripoli city limits. Business district speed limit is 15 miles per hour and surrounding residential areas 20 miles per hour. Violations may lead to arrest and fines. Signed C. L. McCumber, Mayor.
The First National Bank of Waverly and most Bremer County banks opened under Iowa’s new banking law with deposits frozen. New deposits may be kept in cash or government securities, old deposits remain frozen, and owners are urged to redeposit or seek permission before presenting old checks. Over 800 banks statewide operate under this plan. gold and certificates must be turned in by March 17 or face penalties.
The 65th birthday of Mrs Katherine Kuhrt, born March 2, was celebrated March 5 as her son J C Kuhrt and daughter in law hosted guests for an afternoon gathering and birthday supper. Guests included Mrs Margaret Holmes, Mr and Mrs Herman Pries, Mr and Mrs August Schellhorn and daughter Viola, and Fred Kuhrt. The invalid honoree resides with her son and daughter in law and the event brought cheer.
Miss Caroline Brandt and William Schmidt united in marriage in a double ring ceremony at St John s Lutheran church with Rev Harold Wunderlich officiating. Attendees included Herbert Poock and Sarah Brandt. They will reside on a farm near the city. Fr | Frank Bartlett, 80, dies of heart disease on his farm. Survived by wife, one son Edward and three daughters Leota Renn Nettie Cuffel Thelma. Funeral Wednesday at Koch funeral home with Rev Herbert D Temple officiating.
Jess Johnson of Sumner was brought to this city last week and jailed to serve time on intoxication. A Sumner hearing before Justice H. W. Bathke resulted in a $100 fine. failure to pay landed him in jail here.
Bremer county democrats held a meeting in the club rooms of the Waverly Savings bank Tuesday evening for the purpose of organizing a countywide Jeffersonian club.
