Funeral services for Carl Friedrich Winning 85 a resident died Friday in hospital after a fall fracture and complications. Services were at Grace Lutheran Tripoli with Rev. Goetz. burial in Grace Lutheran Cemetery. Survived by widow Emma two sons Fred and others, three daughters, 21 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
March weather in Tripoli has been typical with rain sleet and sun mix. Precipitation totals reach about one and a half inches while temperatures linger in the 30s, dipping to above zero at night and rising to around 40 during the day. Roadways were mostly clear except Saturday when ice coated highways for several hours. Local observer E C Biermann recorded daily highs and lows this past week.
George Lindsley, manager and owner, recently installed a new vinyl plastic screen at the Tripoli Theatre for patrons. The screen delivers a clear brilliant picture that is easy on tired eyes.
Readlyn Independent School District re elected Wolf and Venzke to three year terms as directors. The school election was held a day earlier with both incumbents winning by default or acclamation.
Pfc. Harold Schweer, a Marine from Tripoli, listed in Tuesday’s Des Moines register as aboard the Navy transport Phoenix Seruin. The vessel was slated to land Tuesday in Seattle Washington with rotation troops from the Far East.
The regular March meeting of Bockhaus-Bartels Post of the American Legion will be held at Town Hall on Tuesday March 18 at 8 00 PM All members are urged to be present.
Mr and Mrs Stephen Irving Jr leave Friday for Kenilworth New Jersey where they plan to settle Mrs Irving formerly editor of the Leader for a year and a half intends to continue newspaper work while pursuing creative writing Kenilworth hosts his parents Mr and Mrs S Irving
Funeral services for Mrs Frank Brunscheon 52 of Waterloo were held Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church with burial in Zion Lutheran cemetery Readlyn. She died at St Francis hospital Waterloo Thursday evening of a heart condition. Born February 11 1900 in Maxfield township Bremer county she was married to Frank Brunscheon August 26 1920. The couple farmed near Readlyn then moved to Waterloo 15 years ago. Survivors include her husband one son Lawrence one grandchild five brothers Herman Wittenburg Waverly Theodore Wittenburg Fairbank William Wittenburg Waterloo Fred Wittenburg Denver Herbert Wittenburg Readlyn three sisters Mrs Henry Foelske Waterloo Mrs Ed Seegers Denver Mrs Bertha Tiedt Tripoli.
Herman Schoenbeck 78 died Thursday March 6 at 10:00 am at the Bremer County Home after a two year illness. Rev William F Goetz officiated the Saturday service at Meier funeral home and Fremont Cemetery burial followed. Born October 21 1873 in Fremont Township he lived with parents until 23 then with sister and brother before entering the county home in 1920. Survived by sister Mary and brother William. preceded by brother Henry.
Fliger Bakery of New Hampton has leased the Block & Klemp building in Tripoli and will open a bakery shop about the first of April. The firm operates several outlets in nearby communities. The building, owned by Ed Tegtmeier, is undergoing repairs for the new occupant.
Grace Luther League sponsors a bake sale at the Interstate Power office on Saturday March 15 at 4 p.m. Proceeds support church activities and community programs.
Mrs Bertha Holm and families from Tripoli and Clarion joined Lorenz Holm and kin in Clarion for Sunday dinner and supper to celebrate birthdays of Lorenz Holm and Robert Holm son of Vernie Holm.
Trial jurors for Bremer district court's March term were drawn by Clerk Mary Cretzmeyer. Jurors report April 1 at 10 a.m. at the courthouse. Judge M. H. Kepler will preside. In Tripoli Independent School District election less than 50 votes were cast. J. M. Snyder won a three year term as director and Robert Ambrose was elected treasurer for two years. In Frederika Independent School District Mrs. Fred Rewoldt was elected director and Fred Rewoldt re-elected treasurer for another term.
Tripoli Town Council considers re-oiling streets previously oiled in 1949 and adds those omitted. Property owners seeking inclusion urged to attend meeting at town hall on Monday evening March 17 1952 at 7 00 o clock.
Tripoli area residents are urged to donate as the local Red Cross chapter launches its annual fund drive with a $500 quota. Volunteers led by named workers will visit Fremont township Frederika and Tripoli districts this week and next to seek contributions and memberships for disaster relief and service.
Readlyn aggressive Class B hoops team earned a 54-37 win over McGregor in the first sub-state battle at Waterloo to reach the sub-state finals. They moved into the state stage by defeating Shell Rock 61-49 in the Class B district final at Waverly, and now meet Holy Family of Mason City at Waterloo to decide the sub-state championship.

Pfc. Andrew Nicklaus Jr son of Mr and Mrs Andrew Nicklaus married Ida O Lesh of Atlanta on Sunday March 2 at the army post chapel in Georgia He entered service February 1 1951 and is stationed there They reside in Forest Park Ga and the bride works in the Sears Roebuck Co office in Atlanta
Explorer Post 32 of the Boy Scouts received a firearms and safety dem on Wednesday evening from R F Klemp. Sunday afternoon a rifle shoot was supervised by Harold Miller R F Klemp and Roger Wagner with Wally Miller winning first place Wendell Rettig and Mark Wilharm taking second and third. Participants included Phil Snyder and Jack Martin. Mrs L E Glaza of Cedar Falls visited J R Kane’s home from Friday to Monday.
Tripoli's three churches unite in endorsing the interdenominational One Great Hour of Sharing for March 23. Radio promos on March 17 and nationwide dramatizations March 21 and 22 lead to missions services March 23. Local congregations urged to contribute to the national goal of five million dollars via denominational channels.
A Democratic caucus for Fremont township and Tripoli voters will be held at the Tripoli town hall on Friday evening March 14. The meeting will convene at 8:00 oclock.

Tripoli fire department responded to a blaze at the garage and barn rented by Lewis Young and Fred Ambrose in the north part of town. The fire was controlled quickly with minimal damage. The site is identified as the Mahlzahn property.
Mr and Mrs R A Guhlow and children were supper guests at the George Buhrow home near Waverly Friday. The occasion was a triple birthday observance honoring Mrs Buhrow her daughter Barbara and Mrs Guhlow whose birthdays all occur within a week.
George Lindsley and Mrs. Robert Ambrose receive praise from the Midwestern area office in St Louis for the Tripoli chapter achieving 100 percent enrollment across all local schools in the Junior Red Cross. The letter commends the chapter for this achievement and extends congratulations to Mrs. Ambrose.
Edwin Neuendorf 58 died Friday at State Hospital Independence. Services Monday 2:00 p m at Meier funeral home with Rev Theo Blaufus of St Peter's Evangelical and Reformed officiating. Burial at St Peter's. Survivors include mother Mary Neuendorf brothers John and Arthur sister Mrs Erwin Boeckmann, all of Tripoli.
Grace Lutheran invites Tripoli families to an appreciation night screening of the Christian film All That I Have on Friday March 14 at 8:00 PM. The 65 minute feature follows Dr Grayson and Louie the Lump in a courtroom tale with a meaningful message. No free will offering will be received.
A day long event at Tripoli town hall marked the forty first wedding anniversaries of Joseph P. Snelling and Carrie Franklin Snelling and Burton B Bennett and Eva Seege. Guests included grandchildren, relatives from multiple towns, a large reception, dinner, open house, and a program led by Lawrence Snelling. Over 250 attended.
The Tripoli baseball club sponsors the annual Town and Country basketball tiff at Tripoli high school gym Friday evening March 14. A double header opens at 7 30 with Frederika High girls facing Tripoli girls. Proceeds go to the Tripoli baseball club with admission 15 and 25 cents.
Wm. H. Meier underwent major surgery at Scholtz Hospital in Waterloo on Friday morning. He is reported in favorable condition but will need several weeks of hospitalization for recovery.
Eugene Haydon son of Mr and Mrs Jodie Haydon is in serious condition at Children’s Hospital Iowa City Ward F. His parents plan to spend Friday with him as he marks his fourteenth birthday in the hospital.
