The fifth annual Heise-Tegtmeier reunion drew 108 at Waverly tourist park on Sunday June 24. Families listed include Tegtmeier, Haase, Dettmering, Fink, Koch, Ellerman, Becker, Line, Heise and others from Nashua Charles City Clarksville Tripoli Waterloo and Shell Rock. An arrangement committee and an entertainment committee were named. A picnic dinner and games followed, with H L Haase 67 the oldest and Duane Meier 11 months the youngest attendee.
J C Koch attends Farm Debt Advisory Council meeting at Waverly. Leo Droste family visits Lahman home at Potter Siding. Mabel McIntyre from Sumner works at Tip Top cafe starting Monday. McIntyre rooms with H W Krueger. Koch travels to Mason City for Iowa State Brand Creamery meeting and is chosen as Tripoli Creamery Co. delegate. Advice for trips to Twin Cities urges use of highways 218 or 65. highway 59 north of Chester under repair with poor detours. Chester to Rochester road condition noted with sharp curves. Hudson friends of Rev E F Byers visit: Delbert and Isabel Isminger, John and Helen Whannel, Frank Brandhorst, Rana Sharrett, Elam Hill family, plus children and relatives. All but Mr Hill from Hudson attended children's day at church and picnic at Byers home.
Ernest Westendorf twenty three was killed by a bolt of lightning while working at the Albert Thiemann farm south of the county farm. He was dragged to safety by Lester Schroeder and Herman Harms but died instantly. Funeral services were held at Kaiser funeral home and Peace Evangelical church with Rev. C. Gabler officiating. He was born August 23 1910 in Warren township and survived by his mother five sisters and three brothers.
Mr and Mrs H A Peyton of Chicago visited the Rohrssen family in this city week. A Sunday gathering at the Rohrssen home featured a 6 o clock dinner with attendees including Mr and Mrs Peyton, George Bisbey and sons Waterloo, H J Stumme and family Waverly, H H Bull and family, and local relatives. In the evening Clifford Clements of Readlyn, a Rohrssen niece, called on the family.

Henry Schroeder died at his home in Frederika township on Monday afternoon June 25 at 4 30 after a month long illness of heart disease He was 64 years 6 months and 6 days old His wife Lizzie Everding preceded him in death 20 years ago Surviving are four daughters and two sons Norma Alvina and Albert at home Henry Schroeder Mrs Stanley Pichelman Mrs Gustave Redies all of this vicinity Funeral services will be held Thursday June 28 at 1 pm from his home and at St Peter s Evangelical church Tripoli Burial will be in St Paul s Evangelical cemetery Leroy township Rev K Pffeifer of Siegel will conduct the funeral rites.
Mr and Mrs R C Horsley with daughter Alice and son Louis attended a Emerson family reunion at Waverly tourist park on Wednesday. Forty six relatives gathered from Pennsylvania South Dakota Cedar Rapids Waterloo Goodsell Charles City Marion Gladbrook and Tripoli. The Horsleys were joined home by Mr and Mrs Paul Barthome Neal and Claire Erie Pa guests who stayed until Friday before visiting R B Emerson near Charles City.
The penalty for failure to procure retail sales tax permits will be applied on July 1. If your application has not been mailed, do so at once. Forms for filing your return will be mailed to all permit holders this week. No tax will be accepted without a permit.
Leonard H. Racker as administrator of Herman C. Ladage sues Henry Hagen and Mabel Hagen for 254 dollars in a district court action noted as a new case.
The Royal Neighbors will hold their regular meeting at the Legion hall on Tuesday evening July 8. Mr and Mrs W E Silver of Waterloo visited the Nels Debel home Saturday evening and also attended the band concert.
The fifteenth annual Bremer County Farm Bureau picnic will be held Friday at Waverly’s Tourist Park. Allen B. Kline, Benton County farmer and Iowa Farm Bureau Federation executive committee member, will give the principal address on the corn hog program. The day begins at 10 with a kittenball tournament for 4-H boys, followed by band concerts, a noon picnic dinner with free coffee and lemonade, and an afternoon program of music, singing, 4-H stunts, and more races and games culminating in a kittenball game between a 4-H team and seniors. Big crowds are expected. the event was moved from Denver to Waverly.

Lester Reysa of Cedar Rapids pled guilty in Judge Kingsley's Waverly court to reckless driving after his car sideswiped Arnold Angus's vehicle north of Tripoli. The Monday night crash left Angus with minor bruises and significant vehicle damage. Reysa faced fines of 75 dollars and 6.30 costs, with damages claims to be pursued.
H. H. Sorg Wm Mier Dr E C Claus and the editor returned Sunday evening from a four days fishing trip at Bena Minnesota. They were guests of Dr A M Stegeman commanding medical officer in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Bena. Fishing on Lake Winnebago shish near the CCC camp yielded fine specimens. Mrs Lee O Peacock and children accompanied the winter as far as St Paul visiting Mr and Mrs C J Leggett. The editor gathered data on Civilian Conservation work for a future Leader article.
Miss Helen Niemeyer resigns as cook and waitress at the Tip-Top cafe after two years. She accepts a chef position at the Winneshiek hotel in Decorah and plans to leave Sunday for the new post.

Mr and Mrs Fred Schnurstein entertained relatives at their home Sunday for the hostess birthday anniversary observed the prior Saturday June 23. Attendees included Ed Schnurstein of Ionia, Roy Justine and Watson Lewis families, Elmer Churchill and family, Betty Jean and Louis of Fredericksburg, Chas Holmes and daughters Margaret and Elvera of here, along with Mr and Mrs Wm Schultz and Lizetta. An afternoon of visiting ended with a 5 o'clock lunch served by the hostess.
Raymond Koenig and Mildred Schultz a local couple were married in Cedar Rapids on June 18 with Rev. Baumgartner officiating. Koenig, formerly a meat cutter, will reside in Waterloo with his bride as they begin their life together.
