Tripoli defeated Sumner 5 to 2 in a Cedar Valley League baseball game. Spier started the scoring with a single, Belknap drove in two runs on a triple, and Tripoli added three more in the fifth. Bulgren fanned 12 batters for Sumner while Krueger struck out 12 for Tripoli. Sumner left eight on base and Tripoli seven. Umpire Cinema presided.
Shell Rock toppled league leader Waverly 13 to 4 after eight runs in the first two innings. Shell Rock’s offense featured Savage’s two RBI single, Emery’s homer with two aboard, and Abell and Young each collecting multiple hits. Waverly drops to six wins and three losses while Shell Rock improves to five and four.
Readlyn defeated Nashua 16 to 12 after a ten run inning in Cedar Valley league action Sunday. Wilson Strike and Wittenberg pitched as Readlyn rallied from a 12 all tie to win. game featured a high scoring slugfest and regulation 12 12 deadlock before Readlyn pulled ahead in extra innings.
Miss Lois Frese entertained a group of young folks at her home Sunday as a courtesy to her guests, Arden Miller and Joe Miller, of Des Moines, and observed her 17th birthday. Guests included Miss Dorothy Sommer of Waterloo, the Misses Dahlia Krueger, Margaret Wiebrandt, Phyllis Hankner, Orval Harmening, Howard Rebholz, Wesley Bockhaus, of this city, Des Moines.
Funeral services for Mrs. Arthur A. Eisenhart 80 of 244 Maple Street Waterloo a former Tripoli resident who died Saturday night will be at Petersen Bros chapel Waterloo at 2 30 p m Thursday Rev Harvey C Travis and Rev W C Kelford will officiate Interment in Harlington cemetery Waverly She had six years of failing health due to advanced age and arteries She was born March 4 1854 at Sunbury Pa and came to Waverly Ind in 1855 She married Arthur A Eisenhart in 1879 and lived near Tripoli 28 years before moving to Waterloo in 1907 She is survived by her husband two sons Earl Eisenhart Washington D C Lee Eisenhart Huntington Park Cal two daughters Mabel Eisenhart and Sadie M Duer one brother John P Oberdorf San Jose Cal one sister Mrs Laura Jones Waverly and five grandchildren She was a member of Grace church Waterloo and formerly Congregational church Friends of Tripoli plan to attend the funeral.
Prof. F W P Hilligardt of St Louis and August Gipper of Strawberry Point visited, bringing Rev and Mrs Hilligardt to Strawberry Point for a Fourth of July family gathering at Mrs. August Gipper's home. Attending are Prof Hilligardt and family from St Louis, Mr and Mrs Clarence Neuenkirk and son Paul of Chicago, and other relatives. The Hilligardts will return Thursday with their son and family from St Louis, and their daughter and family will join them at the parents’ home.
The home of Fred Wolfgram Sr hosted a Sunday gathering marking his 77th birthday, June 30, with family dining and baskets of food. Attendees included the Wolfgram families from southeast of town, near Fredericksburg, near Sumner, plus Readlyn and this city, noted for his long illness and his daughter Mrs. John Sassman caring for him at home.
Mrs Clarence Serfoss died Tuesday evening June 26 at 7 o clock at her brother in law Fred Serfoss s home in Western Douglas at age 28 years 5 months and 28 days Death was due to pneumonia The body was taken to New Hampton June 28 and shipped to Fairfax Minnesota for funeral services and burial in St Andrew cemetery She was formerly Miss Mabele Heinrichs daughter of Mr and Mrs William Heinrichs of Fairfax She was recently married to Mr Serfoss The couple had come here where the husband planned to work for his brother Her mother and brother came Tuesday evening but she died before their arrival
Wm Gannon Sumner attorney now permanently located in Tripoli He rents offices above the American Savings Bank and previously practiced with Wm C Hahle at Sumner He is well equipped to handle legal matters and has already made many friends since arriving Wednesday and Saturday appearances ceased.
Mr and Mrs Ed Niemeyer of Hollis Gordon and Ivadell visited Sumner to spend the day with daughter Mrs Walter Garland and husband They enjoyed a picnic supper in the park for the evening outing with the Garlands
The new concrete bridge on primary 59 two miles north of Denver will open to traffic Wednesday July 4. District engineer G H Doty says detour signs are removed. The project cost 11125.97 for the bridge and 6896.48 for 1000 feet of paving.
The Sell relatives held their annual reunion at Sumner park on Sunday July 1 with thirty families attending from Waterloo Denver Tripoli Sumner and Buck Creek. A picnic dinner and supper were served and afternoon games included horseshoe kittenball and baseball. Mrs Sophia Sell 78 was the oldest attendee while Darlene 7 month old daughter of Alvin and Mrs Buck Creek was the youngest. The arrangement committee for the present year were Leslie Sell Buck Creek and Hilda Rieck Sumner. The committee for 1935 includes William Schlichting Denver Arnold Sell Buck Creek.
Under federal funding for cattle tests a large consignment of reactors, including 150 head, was shipped to Chicago by A H Panzer from local yards early this week. The shipment lists owners such as Will Essman, Henry Rathe, Fred Rathe, John Wolfgram, Rueben Drape, Fred Dohrman, Harold Ruethe, Lynn Chapin, John Prestien, Walter Hunne mueller, E W Chapin, Myron Chapin, Herman Pries, H C Schellhorn, H W Meier, Mrs Henry Zander, Ed Lang, and Elmer Drape with varying numbers of cattle all included in the consignment.

Mrs. Emma Wellman and her nephew Muriel Schmidt of New Ulm Minnesota stayed from Saturday to Monday with her aunt Mrs. J C Fink and husband. They traveled Sunday evening to Oelwein with Mrs. Fink and visited her son Mr and Mrs A C Hildebrandt.

Open flight winner Howard Martin of Waverly shot 109 for 27 holes. runner up Bert Ramsdell of Greene tied at 117. Flight winners included Carl Ashby Oelwein and runner up Roy Vanderweiden Grundy Center in 1st flight. Clarence Lane Charles City and runner up F E Bellmy Waterloo in 2nd flight. B Huber Clarksville and runner up Joe Sexton Sumner in 3rd. John Monroe and runner up Walter Voecks in 4th.
William Mummelthei 74 died Friday evening June 29 at St Josephs Mercy hospital after months of illness with several diseases. He leaves three sons William Otto and George all of this city and a daughter Mrs W M Simmons Rock Island Ill. Born December 16 1859 in Germany he lived in this county for many years. Funeral services were held at Koch funeral home Monday at 1 30 pm and Peace Evangelical church at 2 pm Rev C Gabler officiating, burial in Harrington cemetery.
Miss Francies Quinn of Stratford Town and Dr L C Garling of this city were united in marriage at the bride's home on Wednesday morning June 27. Rev William Adix of Manchester performed the ceremony. Attendants were Mrs Adix and Clair Quinn. After a wedding dinner the couple left for a short honeymoon and will reside in Rochester Minnesota where Dr Garling will join the Mayo Clinic.
