Capitol Capsules: County Attorneys Refuse to Draft Liquor Bill

The Iowa County Attorneys Association rejected a proposal to aid the 1953 legislature in drafting a bill to legalize liquor sales by the drink. The decision followed supportive talk at Des Moines and amid criticism from Attorney General Robert L. Larson of a Supreme Court ruling on beer permits. Larson said policing beer outlets relies on state action. Other items note Scout Director Melvin Tudor becoming Iowa Tall Corn Area Council executive, Beardsley’s post-primary rest, and calls to repeal Iowa labor laws and expand the labor department.

Iowa liquor control costs eyed in budget study

A private research firm to the Iowa Budget and Financial Control Committee says changes in the liquor control commission could save over 585000 annually. The study notes liquor may not be a major issue this year unless Republicans push it. Dem Loveless to launch campaign June 27 at Leon and focus on liquor plank. Marketing Eggs By Grade Is Important

Marketing eggs by grade boosts profits for laying flocks says Iowa State College extension poultryman L Z Eggleton. Seasonal price spreads between No 1 and No 2 eggs are rising from four cents to an estimated 10 to 12 cents by midsummer. Gather eggs three times daily, store cool, ease the large end up, and market by grade at least twice weekly to fetch higher prices. Practices such as confining the flock, separating roosters from hens, and providing one nest per four to five birds also improve profits.
