Tripoli Red Sox hammered Oran 18 to 1 in a Sunday Cedar Valley league game. Pooch started for Tripoli with Dunkerton prospect Duea finishing as the reliever. The hot afternoon saw 16 Tripoli players, 5-run first inning, 9 walks by Oran, and no Tripoli errors.

Big Racing Meet Sunday Evening On Waverly Track

An outstanding program of run ning races is set for Sunday evening at the Waverly fairgrounds. Walter Sommer of the Iowa Thoroughbred Racing Association says the meet should attract strong entries from a wide area. Tripoli fans plan to attend after a Sunday afternoon baseball game and many will bring picnic dinners. Races start at 7 o clock with steel football bleachers moved to a vantage point near start and finish. Summer has three horses entered in the meet.

Funeral services for John Tegtmeier 94 eldest Sumner resident were heldFriday afternoon at St John American Lutheran church with burial in the Lutheran cemetery Rev John Mohr officiating He was born Sept 19 1861 son of Mr and Mrs August Tegtmeier married Clara Plagens Feb 8 1900 and lived in Sumner Survived by three sons Werner Davenport Leslie and Arthur and four daughters Zatha Mrs Harry Buentzow Mrs Clarence Schnor Sumner and Mrs Roland Gray Fay ette He was preceded by his wife daughter Ida and two sons Herman and Walter.

Readlyn Host To Kid's Fish Day Coming Sunday

Readlyn Sportsmen's Club sponsors a Kid's Fish Day at the pond two and a quarter miles west of Readlyn and a quarter mile north. Prizes will be awarded for fishing from 1 30 p m to 4 p m. Open to youngsters up to 15. Over 5 000 bull heads placed by the State Conservation Commission promise strong angling. A refreshment stand will be on site.

Last Rites For Mrs Driscoll At Sumner

Services for Mrs Elizabeth Driscoll 93 were held Friday at Berg Chapel. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery southeast of Sumner. She died Wednesday at Fayette County Home where she had lived since 1947. She was born November 29 1862 near Sumner. Surviving: son Newton Indianapolis and two grandchildren. Husband died in 1948.

Banys Win Dairy Diet Derby at Bremer County

Mr and Mrs Oscar Bany of Tripoli won the Dairy Diet contest sponsored by the Bremer County Dairy Council finishing with record weight losses. Oscar Bany shed 32 pounds and Mrs Bany lost 174 pounds in four weeks among 13 contestants. They will compete in the State Dairy Festival June 29 at Waverly. Each received a $25 prize after official weighing at Tripoli Creamery.

Tripoli Carnival Dates Set for July 25 and 26

The Tripoli Commercial Club announced the annual street carnival will run Monday and Tuesday July 25 and 26. The club met at Town hall after a dinner by the Congregational church Women’s Fellowship, with about 25 members present. Harry Buhr presented a film titled American Harvest.

In Sunday Cedar Valley league games Sumner edged Readlyn 5 to 4 and Waverly defeated Denver 16 to 7. Sumner and Readlyn both held early leads as Sumner narrowed the gap. Waverly and Denver traded blows with Waverly pulling away late for the win.

Lots Of Fireworks But Little Rain To Quell Dreuth Threat

Drinking Way Into County Jail Seems to Be On Increase

The Bremer county jail is becoming busier as intoxication arrests rise. By mid 1955 there were 15 intoxication and 10 DWI arrests, totaling 25, up from 18 a year earlier. Sheriff logs show jailings climbed from 30 in 1954 to 115 in that year, with 1918 and 1919 recording far fewer.

New Egg Law Could Boost Bremer County Egg Income

450 Tots Enjoy Annual Fish Day Held Here Sunday

The Wapsie Sportsmen's Club hosted Kid's Fish Day at Tot's Lake with about 1,500 attendees and 450 young anglers.
