Treasure Chest prize boosted to $50 this week in Tripoli

The Tripoli promotion committee of the Commercial Club announced a Treasure Chest prize of 50 dollars this week. Last week’s 25 dollar prize went unclaimed. Geo guhrow failed to appear at the drawing. Consolation prize of 10 dollars went to Ella Milius but she was absent, so Leo Schuldt received it. Registration is open to residents 16 and older at participating merchants, with drawing names read in each store.

Readlyn Sportsmen Sponsor Kid's Fish Derby Sunday

Readlyn Sportsmen's club will sponsor a Kid's Fish Derby Sunday at Crane Creek Creamery dam, four miles south and two miles west of Readlyn. The event runs 2 to 4 p.m. with free refreshments and a stand on the grounds. Eligible participants are children up to 15, rods and reels are banned, only pole and line may be used, and each child must provide bait.

Ruth Reiter Named President of County Girls 4-H Clubs

Ruth Reiter of Franklin Blue Belles was elected president of Bremer County 4-H girls at the Waverly rally day. Other officers include Karen Milius vice president, Karen Hassen secretary, Mary Monaghan treasurer, Iris Oltrogge historian. Special honors went to Wapsie Whirlwinds, Franklin Blue Belles, and Cedar Hums for attendance, uniforms, and mothers present. Paul Knodde of International Farm Youth Exchange spoke, with 252 girls, 37 leaders, and 86 mothers and guests in attendance.

Funeral Today At Readlyn Church for Ernest Meyer

Funeral services were held today at Matthias Funeral home and St Pauls Lutheran church Readlyn for Ernest Meyer 57. He died Sunday at home of a heart attack burial in church cemetery with casket bearers listed. Meyer born June 21 1899 in Bremer county son of Fred and Mary Kraft Meyer. Married March 29 1928 to Alice Wehling. Survived by wife a son Kenneth Waterloo his mother Mrs Mary Meyer Waterloo two sisters Mrs K Farley Hazelton and Mrs Rose Dierdorf Indianapolis Indiana.

Community Youths To Star Square Dancing Friday

Youths of the Tripoli community are invited to a Friday night square dancing session at Town Hall as part of the summer recreation program. Sessions cost 25 cents per lesson with door payment and a second 25 cent fee if reentry is needed. refreshments will be served and organizers will assign age groups for instruction. 139 Youngsters in Red Cross Swimming Program This Year

About 139 area children join the Tripoli chapter water safety program this summer with 82 from Tripoli and 57 from Frederika. The Tripoli group swims Mondays and Thursdays mornings while Frederika meets Tuesdays and Fridays mornings. Chaperone schedule lists mothers by date from June 17 through July 25.

Tripoli to Test Denver Leaders Sunday in Denver

Tripoli travels to Denver Sunday to challenge the league leading Red Sox in a 2:15 p.m. game. Denver beat Readlyn 10 to 5 behind homers by Kehoe Gielau and Lehmkuhl as Jerry Duea pitched all nine for Denver. Readlyn collected 16 hits but fell short. Tripoli had trouble against Janesville Tuesday, dropping 12 to 1.

Lindsley Reelected Head of Tripoli Red Cross

Geo L Lindsley was reelected president of the Tripoli Red Cross at the annual meeting held Wednesday night last week in Tripoli. Rewoldt named vice president and Chapin secretary. The group reported receipts of 983.41 against expenses of 1 298.19 and a year end balance of 2 230 66 with 858 05 raised in membership drive including 700 from Tri poli Community Chest and local township contributions.

Kid's Fish Day Postponed by Mud

Muddy grounds forced the postponement of the Wapsie Sportsmen's Kid's Fish Day last Sunday. The event will be held on Sunday, June 30, after landscaping work at Tot's Lake widened and exposed ground, with rain making the area too wet and hazardous for cars and uncomfortable for children to fish.

Bremer County Dairy Council sponsors a Dairy Princess contest on July 15 in Sumner during Sumner Days. The county winner advances to the state contest with a 500 dollar first prize, plus a special Sumner award. Tripoli High School Contract Bids Total $396907

Contracts totaling 396907 were approved by the Tripoli Community School district board for a new high school. Roth and Associates led the general construction bids at 266750, with Spencer Construction and Sande Construction following. Plumbing and HVAC bids ranged up to 96474, while electrical work bid to Brayton Electric at 35667. Work begins this summer with enclosure by winter and completion aimed for September 1958 under a 410000 bond issue.

Second Week of Youth Recreation Program Outlined

Tripoli schedules a second week of youth recreation with events for all ages. Activities include ball games and stories for kindergarten to seven years at Town Park from 9 to 11 30 a m, swimming for older youth, a hobo hike on Tuesday, crafts and croquet, and Friday kittenball for girls and baseball for boys with contests at Town Park North Park and Baseball Park.
