A Saturday Bremer County Bicentennial celebration attracted an estimated 2,000 residents. The event featured speeches by local officials, senior citizens crowned as community Kings and Queens, and contests including log sawing, horseshoe pitching, and window painting with ribbons and prizes awarded.

Otto Schmidt Funeral Rites Held At Klinger
Otto C Schmidt of Readlyn R R 1 died at Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo after a farmland life in Readlyn. Born December 11 1902 he married Norma Poock in 1927 at Immanuel Lutheran Klinger. He is survived by wife four sons daughter two sisters sixte en grandchildren and multiple siblings plus a grandchild previously. Funeral services by Cleveland Funeral Home Readlyn at Immanuel Lutheran Church Klinger followed by church cemetery burial. The Grace Luther League hosts an ice cream social June 27 at the church 5 to 830 pm. The Tripoli Food Locker will close Saturdays through summer starting June 19.

Denver Plans Bicentennial Events With Parades and Pageants
Denver organizers led by Mrs. Tom Stevens outline July 4 church service awards crowning and balloon release for the bicentennial. July 5 includes Denver Days parade prep and a Fall Festival August 11 14 with pageants dances contests shows and a garden club exhibit. Volunteers are urged for a bicentennial choir pageant and parade floats. A girl scouts paper drive is slated Friday with a rain date July 24.

Tripoli holds a July 4 Bicentennial program starting with a 9 a.m. community service at North Park. If rain, service moves to city hall. A schoolhouse museum dedication follows with honors to Grace Beebe Tofte and Warren No. 9 teachers. Open house 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bremer County Century Farm winners announced at 11. Bells nationwide toll at 1 p.m. Window displays listed and more planned. The Panthers lose to Sumner in eight innings. late errors and a triple play cost the win. Tripoli Pantherettes lost to Jesup 19 to 7 and to South Winn the next day. Coach Jim Biesterfelt blamed costly errors in the fifth inning of the Jesup game after holding Jesup scoreless through four innings and building a six run lead. He stressed that no lead is safe and that defense must stay focused for the full game.
